A Nickelback album from 2008 is number 1.

I have a really hard time believing this. Dark Horse outsold A Thousand Suns in 2010? Bullshit.

I have a hard time believing that they even got 2nd. ATS hasn't done very well at all in the US. Plus it's been only out for 3 months

Yeah, number 2 is pretty impressive...except when they lose to a Nickelback album from 2008. When you think about ROCK albums, they don't sell as well as hip hop/rap so for a rock album it did pretty good (as the #2 ranking confirms).

Nickleback albums usually move a mind-blowing amount of copies. If I recall correctly the one before this was on the Billboard Top 200 for like 2 and a half years after it was released.

You know.. I've never understood the reasoning behind the hate towards Nickelback. Mind you, they don't come off as impressive in my perspective. Consequently, I'm obviously not a fan.

So what is it? They're a band that knows what they're doing as far as I'm concerned. Did they make a statement way back when, that came off as offensive? Or are they simply one of those groups that are prone to attracting negativity?

They're actually ok. I like a few of their songs. But despite how popular they are, I'm just surprised ATS couldn't outsell it since Dark Horse is 2 years old.

Nickleback catches hate because they're very, very popular (as evidenced by an old album outselling heavyweights like Disturbed and Linkin Park), but at the same time very, very mediocre. Not as horrible, though the constant 'derp derp THIS SONGS ABOUT SEX GUYS!' posturing gets old, but they're just so meh while so successful, it breeds a sort of contempt.

I like some Nickelback songs but I really wish LP got #1 :(
Maybe they will top the chart when ATS is 2 years old.

Yeah, it's a pitty. I've seen some of their Metallica jams on youtube and they do them really fucking well. They could be a really great band if they wern't so formulaic and actually challenged themselves.

    NICKELBACK?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    *Dies*

I used to enjoy their music... but they constantly make the same stuff over and over again.

And Chad Kogner (is that his name? I forget lol)'s voice is annoying imo.

I'm glad ATS and STP are on the charts. Other than that, rock is most certainly dead.

It's not "dead" but it's certainly dying.

No offence to LP, but they're not really rock anymore.

In fairness I don't think you could label ATS 'rock'.

Is it because it's "genre-busting"? :awesome:

#2 is great but I just don't feel like album is "rock" either.

For some reason I find this hard to believe.

    Are there any sales numbers?

Haha it's a crime to call ATS rock.
