Heard the PHM remaster is just them boosting all the levels and calling it a day.

Don't agree with you there chemist (can't bring myself to call you minuteforce sorry ), Broken needs a serious remastering. Gave Up was so amazing live, but I actually don't enjoy listening to Broken that much. Even album version Wish pales in comparison to them playing it live.

Broken gets that "atmosphere" that chemist was talking about, probably due more to the fact that the circumstances surrounding the writing and recording were very tough and hard on Trent. TVT wanted another Pretty Hate Machine, Trent was burnt out from touring from basically '88 to '91, was getting into booze and drugs more and more... Broken and The Downward Spiral was what we got out of all of that. Broken is angry, it's a "Fuck You" album. Listen closely to "Physical".

It's funny, I was on the PHM website the other day, and watching the behind the scenes/live footage they have streaming, and the live shows back then were just as brutal as anything during the Self-Destruct and Fragility tours that followed it years later. It's kind of weird seeing Trent and company bang and thrash around while playing a song like "Kinda I Want To".

Could someone recommend me the best NIN songs? I'm giving them another shot.

The Fragile album is his best work, I think. The Frail, The Wretched, We're In This Together, The Fragile, and Just Like You Imagined is such a sick stretch of songs. Then to finish up the first disc with La Mer and The Great Below just tragically sums up Trent's life at the time.

Then the second disc is weaker, but there are still amazing tracks on it. The last 3 songs close out the album brilliantly. The Big Come Down is one of my favorites of any NIN song. Just one big mess of emotion.

The Slip is what got me into them. Which is free on the NIN website www.nin.com

Year Zero is highly recommended from me. Look up the songs Zero-Sum, Survivalism, and The Good Soldier.

The discs are pretty much equal imo, both have like one annoying track each (Pilgrimage for left, Starfuckers for Right). Ripe (With Decay) probably isn't up to standard with the endings of every other NIN album, but it works with the album definitely. Those points aside, The Fragile is definitely my favourite NIN album, and probably my favourite album ever (at least it was for some time), so that really speaks for the rest of the album I guess. Agree on Big Come Down, so much love from here.

Listen to Still if you're like really sad all the time. Favourite depressing album ever.

Trent and Atticus Ross won a Golden Globe for Best Score at tonight's awards ceremony. Well deserved!

Yep. David Fincher is directing it, so it probably won't blow chunks.

On topic: Congrats to Trent and Atticus. Let's see if they can win an Oscar, too.

Yeah, and Rooney Mara [Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend from Social Network] is playing Lisbeth.

So he's recorded this as NIN... Interesting. That's a good sign.

It's actually also less The Slip and more Fragile sounding, which is great too.

I've been following his work quite a bit on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I wish he'd put out more music, but he's been busy as hell. I've been hoping for another How To Destroy Angels EP or LP, but NIN would be sweet too if he keeps putting out unique stuff. The Slip is underappreciated.
