Watch recent "coming of age" movies first and see what issues they focus on. Movies about wars won't tell you much about how they're changing people back home, especially the youth. And check your PM.

    Taxi Driver - 8/10

First time I've seen it somehow. Pretty awesome character study. That's pretty much all the movie is.

In Search Of (indie film 2008)

    6.5/10

This movie makes you feel good about yourself because no way in hell is almost every character in a family this fucked up.

Yeah, when I'm looking at those war films though I don't look for answers in the film content, but in how one consumes the film itself. Just as important as the cultural-historical content of the film is its context, or audience lens. That lens is what I want to explore. So in other words, it's about what the characters potentially viewing such a film put into their film viewing experience, rather than what they get out of it.

I tried this with LOST for example, which interestingly in the first season or two revealed a sense of paranoia and natural hostility, and on first glance is very reflective of the post-911 atmosphere. Yet on further inspection and analysis, that paranoia and natural hostility is geared towards characters who have to work together to deal with a common, larger threat, which might in fact be more reflective of the political divisions that settled in immediately preceding and following into the Second Gulf War.

    Limitless - 7/10

Excellent visual effects. There was a random subplot which I thought was pretty pointless but overall it was a great movie.

Origin: Spirits of the Past - 3/5

Childish humor was oversold, though that was expected. Its message was also way too obvious and preachy.

    Dinner For Schmucks - 6/10

It was alright. I didn't get any good laughs except for at the end. Most of it was pretty dull though.

I thought that was one of the better major comedy productions in the past few years.

    I LOVE Steve Carrel.

I think Source Code is more complex than Inception. Inception is pretty much simple, you just get lost in the levels of dreams and you don't actually care about the characters 'cause it's all a dream (or not - you know what I mean)... With Source Code you have to think what's going on and you have to watch it again, to figure it out completely.

Yeah, people only find Inception complex because there are so many plot holes in that film.

I think Source Code was pretty clear cut. And the ending is just a supermassive pile of illogical nonsense if you actually try to think about it. I just enjoyed the movie because it was a good story, not because it was intellectual like Inception.
