This seems like a pretty random comparison, but both songs have been touted as being potential major hits for the band (LOATR, if I recall correctly, was described as such in the MTM booklet even). Mike and friends seem pretty high on Iridescent as of late, and feel like Transformers are going to push it over the top. But with the chart failure of LOATR, will Iridescent fair much better?
No doubt. It's a great song and I can't wait for the rest of the world to hear it. It has a fantastic message.
Well, seeing as New Divide blew up with Transformers 2, I don't see why not, seeing as Iridescent is the single from that soundtrack, and not necessarily from A Thousand Suns itself.
I chose FRIDAY FRIDAY but to be serious, I don't think it will do as well. The fact of the matter is ATS didn't sell as well as MTM, probably due to the fact that the fanbase is more cautious now given the radical change in sound.
Purely because of the Transformers involvement, yes, it will be a substantially bigger hit than LOATR, and probably the most successful single from ATS.
It wasn't. They had expected/hoped it would be, like they're apparently thinking Iridescent will now. We're comparing and contrasting.
In this generation of pre-teenagers who listen to only extremely overproduced, cheezy 3-minute electronic pop songs... ... I doubt it will be huge.
The reason I say it won't be much of a big hit is that Waiting for the End never made it to number one. I have no idea how it didn't.
That's not the best reason. When it comes down to it, the song we're talking about is pretty radio-friendly AND it's tied in with a huge film release so it probably will do relatively well.
I'd say that the Transformers tie-in will propel this far above any other single from the album. Remember, Hollywood sells anything associated with it, to the tune of big bucks...this included. As far as my vote goes, though...it took all my willpower to stay away from the friday friday ketchup motherfucker option...and in the end, I lost the battle. Ketchup, motherfucker! Also, Iridescent is my new theme song. Sums up my life perfectly.
