I read about this yesterday. Obama's gotta be drooling with all of the power he's soon to be getting. Not only can he kill American citizens without due process, now he can do it on our own turf and even imprison them if he wants. There's a good chance I'll be on one of his lists for speaking the truth and posing a threat to him.
figures John Mccain is part of it. This is disgusting. reminds me of the patriot act. I'm normally not a small gov't kind of guy but this is too much, way too much
It amazes me how people can see a bill that was rather obviously proposed and approved by Congress and then turn around and blame President Obama. Not to say I'm defending the bill; just don't be so quick to brand the president, considering he's the one who'll have to be lobbied for a veto, and given that it'll more likely than not pass the legislature.
You must be new here According to trav, everything is Obamas fault and only Ron Paul can save us. And trav, don't flatter yourself. President Obama couldn't give a shit what someone says on a Linkin Park message board.
^ I guess commies don't read Anne Frank, this guy doesn't remember the Green Police. Okay that was harsh I kid, but seriously this isn't Obama's fault, unless he were to pass it, which I doubt he will. I do have a question though, what kind of advantage would allowing U.S. soil to be a battlefield be? Besides the Mexican border, I can't think of any reason.
You can bypass all of the rights an American citizen has. Or any citizen for that matter. It's just more liberty we are forced to surrender in our "war on terror", which will be never-ending because "terrorist attacks" are a battle strategy, not a human being. You can't win a war against something that can't surrender or be killed. It's a sham to get people to give up as much power as possible in order to get our government as big as possible. The government wants wars because they are in bed with corporations that profit from war, and our Keynesian economic policies think war is good for the economy, which it isn't. Edit: Here's another article about it: Secret Bill There goes the days where you were innocent until proven guilty. Now if the government makes a mistake or has evil in control of the White House, you're imprisoned or dead. This is a pretty nice combo to the Patriot Act. Edit: This passed today. Who is seriously putting faith in Obama to veto this?
Obama is threatening to veto this if it comes across his desk: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/...tion_n_1126399.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009
I don't see how anything I said relates to conspiracy theory, but it's well known that Obama is a compulsive liar. A lot of the major things he campaigned on were lies. And he continues to lie. And regarding this, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. http://www.salon.com/2011/12/01/congress_endorsing_military_detention_a_new_aumf/singleton/ Edit: it even says almost the exact same thing in Derek's link. I don't know how carefully you guys read that if you think that Obama is against this bill.
I would love to go back at history and look at the other 42 presidents and see what their campaign promises were. It's impossible to fulfill all of your promises.
it's all going to end next year anyway, bring on the martial law i say. fuck it. i agree that our only savior is Ron Paul, tho.
So you're giving him a pass for being a liar and manipulating the public because other presidents have done it in the past? That's a dangerous way to blindly accept authority. Simply thinking that he couldn't live up to his promises is just ignoring the facts. In reality, he had no intentions of living up to them, and even did the exact opposite in some cases. He was saying what the public wanted to hear in order to get elected, much like a lot of GOP candidates are doing now. They are flip flop specialists. I find it curious that you chose that part of my post to reply to, though. No response to the rest of it?
but Obama is a complete puppet. He doesn't even have that much power, which is arguably the 2nd shittiest thing about him besides the fact that he is a complete puppet. There is no reason for him to pass some bill that fucks over the American people unless he is 1. getting something out of it (money? power?) 2. Being told to do so or 3. Both Not necessarily the same topic but it all connects http://www.truth-out.org/77-trillion-wall-street-anything-keep-banksters-happy/1322841741
The Real Reason for Obama's Threat to Veto the Indefinite Detention Bill (Hint: It's Not to Protect Liberty) Edit: White House says no veto of defense bill
