    From this thread:

"We chose the album title 'Living Things' because it's more of a record about people. It's more about personal interactions. On the last few records we've had an interest in global issues and social issues and those things are still around, there are certainly traces of them, but this record is far more personal."

This makes me even more pumped for the new album. I've listened to an insane amount of this guys work according to his discography.

  7. Cmon guys, JB's "boyfriend" was brillantly mixed. The song itself isn't great at all, but the mixing and mastering were awesome. I'm glad to see LP hire Manny for the post-production.

JB has a song called "Boyfriend"?!

Let me guess, the lyrics must be about his abilities as a boyfriend, amirite? :teehee:

What is this? I thought everything was done by LP in thier albums. Kinda bums me out knowing someone else partially changes thier sound, but I guess that's what they all do in the music industry. When I first read this I thought they were talking about a guy remixing the album after completion.

What? Mixing is almost NEVER done by bands or musicians themselves. They have to ALWAYS go to a sound engineer to make those arrangements. The band DOES have an opinion on what they would like to have, but mixers know better and they can follow the direction of the album without compromising the sound.

Linkin Park has NEVER mixed a record by themselves.

This. People that mix records have a talent and are hired for a reason.

So what does mixing the album mean? Is it like adding new sounds, or taking the sounds and changing them or maybe backing tracks, without actually changing the sound?

Mixing the sound is taking the tracks that make the song and adjusting the frequencies and sounds in a way that sounds good together.

No, read a couple of pages back on this post. Mixers receive all the tracks for each song (guitars, vocals, bass, synths, etc) and they level volumes and stuff, it's a really complicated task, it's not just playing with knobs like Derek said a while back. They don't change the original music.

    ^ Yeah, this.

Mixing is the process of getting all the tracks (vocals, drum, bass, guitars, piano) adjusted to one another so nothing sounds extremely loud and out of place. Mixers can also add effects like delay, reverb, flange, usually with the approval of the artist.

I'm just glad that they don't take part in the loudness wars.
