So recently, I got into an argument with one of my friends that lasted close to 3 days and got very heated, all based on a very simple hypothetical question:

Who would win in a fight between cavemen and astronauts?

My basic argument was that astronauts would win because although both are human, both have fight or flight instincts and astronauts are some of the fittest people on Earth. Also, the caveman, over thousands of years, has evolved into the astronaut.

My friend was of the opinion that the sheer force of nature that was prehistoric man could take out an astronaut.

So I want to hear from you guys about what you think. Give a reason for what your answer and consider all variations and possibilities of the situations, in all possible environments.

    Rules:

    1. Neither of them starts out with weapons.
    2. The fight takes place on Earth
    3. You're not allowed to use the words "This is a stupid argument, it could never happen" :p

More rules can be established as we go along

Here was the inspiration for the argument:

    Let me hear it! :D

Good question, it can only be answered once you answer this: define caveman.
No matter the caveman specified, they've had to collect their own food, thus essentially making them naturally stronger and possibly faster than the modern man although the training in which an astronaut undertakes, definitely ties things up.

The caveman my friend and I decided had to be the one the modern human is a descendant, so not a neanderthal. Think Homo Erectus

This is a stupid argument, it could never happen.

Seriously though, I think the Caveman would win in a meet and beat battle. If there was time, however, to plan and build weapons, the Astronaut would win. Technology wins. That's what Tom Cruise taught me in The Last Samurai.

Cavemen would win, they have developed survival skills and natural strength, astronauts have nothing but a nice suit.

But astronauts are chosen from ex or currently serving military personnel. They are physically trained and (being military personnel) usually have some form of at least basic combat training. Not to mention, they are also much smarter than cavemen, they would win.

Not only are astronauts incredibly fit but their insanely smart. The brain of the astronaut makes the whole thing a blow out.

The astronaut would have to stay on the outside and pick his shots. If the caveman gets a hold of him, it's eye-gouge and skullfuck city.

Caveman will not give a single fuck.

    Agreed haha

But the caveman won't be able to comprehend the astronaut. He'd be an outsider from the cavemans perspective, so in that sense, the astronaut would have the element of surprise. The caveman may be savage, but the astronaut would be much more clinical and efficient.

Even though the caveman would have to hunt for his food, he'd be malnourished whereas the astronaut would be in better condition and bigger :)kappa:) as well
