Mike said in an interview, that they tried to wirte a song like this, but could not get the song into a proper length (3 minutes something) so they just used the parts they liked best and ended up with 1.46
Besides: for an hardcore punksong (which is what the songs is basically) 1.46 is quite long

First of all, calm down with the question and exclamation marks.

This is the story: they had this one minute and forty-six seconds thing. One day Mike said that they should try to work on it and make it longer, but then he figured out - why would they change it? They should leave the song the way it is.

yeah i noticed the shouting as well but i couldn't understand it and yes,
it was pretty messy but it's awesome.
i'm like "Holy shiz! This is fcking awesome! *jumping and headbanging*" after seconds it was played.
this album gave mixed emotions, like on ATS. might as well listen to it again since i only heard it for the first time just now.

They said it would be ''just one big bang and you're out''. Their influences for this track were the punk bands they listened to in high school.

The part at the beginning where it sounds like "Linkin Park should go back...", sets the precusor for the rest in my eyes. So they went back to their roots for 1:46 just to appease all the "haters." I think it was meant to be so short just so they could be like "there, we went heavy as hell for ya just like old times."

    Just a theory.

    They are awesome. That's what.

I brought them up because Bricks is an example of a short punk song on an album full of longer songs besides itself. and the fact there is nothing wrong with short songs. Victimized is short but still 100% awesome.

The song is fast. If you were to slow it down to, say, "Lies Greed Misery"'s tempo, you'd wind up with something close to that track in terms of length.

So, the band made the song fast and its structure rather tight. The reason for that is, they felt it was right.

They used to listen to Punk music as kids, so they drew influence from punk. This is a punk song just with a Linkin Park twist. and it is written just like a punk song. If they were to extended it, it wouldn't be the same. also what Minuteforce said is true

    It's 1:46 too long.

Going by what most people say on here and their song choices, it is really hard to figure out what "heavy" means for someone like me who doesn't understand what the term means. I'm not sure some of you even know what the term means. Can someone clarify?

As for Victimized, i really love the track even though screaming songs are not my thing. I think Chester's screaming paired with Mike's rap and the song's structure really sold it for me.

    See: Hybrid Theory/Meteora guitars.

At least, that's why most "old" lp fans consider "heavy" a hurr hurr

I hate the end of Blackout so much that I actually made a version of Blackout when it ends after Chester is done with the breakdown. It doesn't sound like the same song and it annoys me how it turns into a quiet song with Mike singing.

I can see how one would dislike the change, but I do not mind the change, especially since Mike's singing is some of the best he has ever done

Just play the song twice. It's good enough to enjoy both times and not get tired of it. Problem solved.
