I've never been a fan of Muse, but these last couple of days, I've checked them out, and I like it... These newer songs are awesome (although Survival isn't that great) Unsustainable > Madness > Survival
Hey, what do you know? People got all emotional and overreacted again. Are we going to do this with every song that is released?
^ Nope, sorry, first two songs off the album are still crap, a step back for Muse, and don't bode well for the album. Madness, while not treading on any new ground, is at least catchy.
Yes, it's what this thread is for... Madness disappointed. Nothing new, just Queen/U2. And there's nothing innovative about dubstep. Muse were unique before, every song was different, but this, I don't even know what the fuck.
Muse wasn't unique before. Remember all the Radiohead comparisons? If anything they are more unique now.
Madness isn't a "grower" for me... liked it the first time I heard it . Survival & The 2nd Law: Unsustainable are good too, but I have to listen to them a bit more. And Survival sounds much more like Queen with these background vocals than Madness. Don't really hear Queen in Madness. Wouldn't say Living Things was a disappointment for me, but The 2nd Law just sounds way "bigger" (more epic). For me The 2nd Law is like Muse' A Thousand Suns... it's very experimental. Every song sounds different. Want to hear the album.
They were compared to Radiohead because 1) British 2) Abuse of falsetto 3) Not mainstream-style The only albums that sound vaguely similar would be maybe Pablo Honey and Muses first couple of albums, again because they're alternative and feature some interesting guitar work with, again, lots of falsetto. Nothing Muse has done sounds even close to anything Radiohead have done after their first album.
Somewhat true, although Showbiz, Symmetry and Absolution are different types of rock altogether. Showbiz was very generic, and that's why I hate it. Symmetry was very experimental and god was it loud at the best of times. Absolution was an experience. And probably the only Muse album that could ever be called an "experience". Very concept-y and lots of different sights and sounds Obviously Black Holes was when muse became truly unique, but Muse have been somewhat unique before that.
^ No I'd honestly say that's fairly objective. They seem to have lose their edge sometime between Black Holes and The Resistance. Not to say the latter's a bad album, but before that, each album brought something significantly new to the table or had improved songwriting.
I've never actually listened to Muse. I've heard a few songs, like on the radio or TV or whatever. They're actually quite good
Madness>Unsustainable>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Survival
Well, since everyone's doing it, might aswell... Prelude>Survival>Madness=Unsustainable IMO none of these songs are bad. Prelude, man. Dat Orchestra!
