Hey guys, just out of curiosity, WHY THE HELL do people keep saying that LGM sounds like dubstep? I'm seriously asking.
Every time somebody wrote a LT review and they got to LGM, they wrote shit like "WHOA who let Skrillex in the studio?"

...Am I missing something? The song sounds NOTHING like dubstep, at all. Why is it that people claim it does? Is it the guitar effect in the verses? That just sounds like a guitar/synth going through a filter, nothing too crazy. It just pissed me off whenever I read it.

    /rant :p

It could also be those stutter-steps in the song that stutter Mike's verses at times. But yeah, I have no idea why it's people are calling it dubstep or even Linkinstep.

Linkin Park fan logic: "audible synth bass = dubstep". ;)

Same reason they called every song "emo" years ago; it's a popular thing, and anything that sounds even remotely similar, to any extent, and in any context, is therefore that genre no exceptions.

Agree with this 100%. People label music on what is popular in that point and time. Say nu-metal never existed. If One Step Closer was released right now as a new LP song, people would probably not label it as nu-metal, they'd probably just call it Rock music. People called a lot of the songs on MTM ''emo'' because that was popular back in like 2006/2007. Now, people wouldn't really call it that. Same with dubstep now. See?

I would say the song FLIRTS with dubstep but isn't a dubstep track entirely.

You can't deny that there's been some influence out of the current state of music, when even both Muse and Korn have hopped on the wagon so to speak

When ATS first came out (happy birthday, ATS!) people said that The Catalyst was techno, as well.

Yeah, I've never really understood it myself. Same with the "Catalyst=Techno" sentiments. Labels never fitted Linkin Park anyway.

It's possible to say that it flirts with commercial, dancey dubstep, but to say that the track resembles actual dubstep in ANY way at all is completely incorrect and ridiculous.
