Definitely an album that has the potential to grow on you. I was never into it either, and then one day it just clicked and I now consider it one of their best.
Ok! I was just asking, because I've always seen their self-titled record as their most underrated one. And to this day, I haven't succeed in figuring out why Sure it's not their best record, but it's neither that far behind their other work I think. Anyway, back to Koi No Yokan, I love this record more and more ! Tempest have been growing on me a lot these days, it could become one of my favorite too.
Can't believe I haven't heard a Deftones song before (I have all the Crosses EP's though but yeah, that ain't Deftones ), started listening to them now and damn, even though I'm not really a metal fan, I dig this!
Man, the new album is brilliant. Its amazing how different it is compared to Diamond Eyes. Really proggy with great dynamics, some aspects of it remind me of Tool & Smashing Pumpkins. I'm glad the've experimented a bit more on this album. One of my fave tracks is is probably Romantic Dreams. Great riffs all over than song. As usual Deftones haven't put out a bad album yet.
I love this album! Been spinning this and Diamond Eyes for the past week or so. Deftones are just so awesome. For me, right now, both are tied for the best Deftones album. Followed by White Pony. Glad somebody mentioned Tool and Smashing Pumpkins. I definitely get that vibe on some of the tracks.
Just for you to know, the record has received an amazing reception so far, and has been praised by tons of critics. Right now, it has an average score of 84/100 on Metacritic, indicating "universal acclaim".... Even though it might be a little over-hyped (as it's the case with most acclaimed records btw), I'm so happy for them
Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Has Passed Away Many of you Deftones fans might know that bassist Chi Cheng has been in a partially conscious state as a result of a car accident a few years back. As of this morning he has passed away. Link I probably would have posted this in a Deftones thread, if I could find one that was more recent. Discuss anything related to Chi/where the band will go without him. Personally, I think that the band will have to go on, just like they have on the past few albums without him.
Deftones is one of my favorite bands, but I had not really listened to them until after Chi's accident. Seemed like a cool guy from the videos I've seen of interviews and live shows. Obviously a huge loss for the band, but they have sort of been able to move on with the last two albums. Maybe they'll release the tracks from "Eros" now as a way to remember Chi?
sucks that he passed away so young. I thought he was doing good the past couple years so it was weird to read he had died 'suddenly' I think the best scenario with "Eros" would be to release the album for a flat fee or free and people can donate the flat fee or above to some kind of fund for Chi's family or a charity they set up.
He had been doing well enough that they moved him out of the ER back in July so he could recover at home, but I guess he was re-admitted to the hospital yesterday with sepsis and didn't make it. Lots of stuff can suddenly go wrong when that many of your major bodily functions have been shut down for that long.
