    Skin To Bone is the first LP song I dislike. I don't HATE it, as it has a really interesting instrumental, it's the lyrics. The chorus is too similar to Roads Untraveled, since both choruses consist of "aaahhhh"s and "ooooohhhh"s.

    So I guess you must really hate powerchords then.

    No, i think it's their best album.
    It is energetic too. Not the kind of HT or ATS, its a new kind of energy I feel when I hear to it. I also don't know why you don't like BID! It's a good song, which was veryveryvery succesful here in germany, so also my sister, who hates lp because I love them, said the song is OK, so that must mean something!!

    ATS is awesome too anyway, but i think LT is better ;)
    (kill me if you want but It's only my opinion to that)

    ATS is their best IMO by FAR. But LT was a good "look back" to the rootz. The lyrics is good, I like the direction where the band is going but I hope they will do more experiments in the next album and stop doing so much radio-friendly songs with the "normal" song structure. I mean, for example is my second favorite LP song ever but it just not that special like the any of the songs from ATS. I like LT better then ATS but it's not better.

    Timeout.

    Why is it that if you don't like something like "Castle Of Glass" or even "The Catalyst" you're classified as a nu-metal fan? I think Living Things was pretty stale compared to an album like Hybrid Theory. A Thousand Suns was awesome though

    I always love this defense to an argument - so original.

    You're taking my words completely out of context. I'm not sure where you got how the band "feels" out of that sentence, but what I mean is this: compare ANY video performance of an ATS song from 2010-2011 and compare the enthusiasm the band shows with any LT song they've played. Hate to say but the difference is staggering.

    However, to answer your statement about "how the band feels", the band HAS shown their positive feelings towards playing music from Living Things time and time again in countless interviews both pre and post-HCT.

    Of course the band will be enthusiast about playing upbeat songs contrary to the drawn out tracks in ATS. If anything the band pushed themselves to make ATS, LT was pure "fun and games", which sucks for me.

    If it's successful in Germany it has to be good! + your sister.

    Not really just disappointing, but boring. Most of the remixes out there add much of the vibe the songs are originally missing. The album eventually grows on you though, much like it seems ATS has for most...

    By now the band has such a diverse fanbase that no single style of record would appease everyone. It's just not possible. Even before the record came out I knew that I was just not going to like some songs off of it. At the same time, I like the album just for the fact that I got POWERLESS out of it for example along with CASTLE OF GLASS, two of my favorite songs from them.

    I know people want cohesive 'albums' with one 'good' sound like ATS was, but I'm afraid that as time goes on this is gonna get less and less viable for the band, both commercially and creatively since they are constantly writing now, and their ideas can change over time. I'd rather support efforts like LIVING THINGS where there are bits for everyone. You like older stuff? Here's a LOST IN THE ECHO. You like newer stuff? Here's UNTIL IT BREAKS. And everything in between.

    Fuck the fanbase and fuck commercialism. They already have everyone's attention, they need to do something with it. On minutes and Suns it was like, here's the music. Don't like it? We don't care. That's when the music came out the best. LT was made for mainstream and we got a lesser quality in my opinion. It wasn't as exciting. The first time I listened to ATS I was anxious the whole way through. I want that back. What I don't want is another album made for casual fans to nit pick through and pick out stuff that's there style. Fuck the casual fans. Make an album for us, the loyal fans who will love whatever you put out except for half ass efforts like LT.

    Fist pump

    And fuck loyalism to a fanbase. You've got one major goal, and that's to make music. Fuck what anyone else thinks about it, for better or worse.

    Thing is, LT still did have is moments of Surprise. of course, nowhere near as extensive as ATS, but songs like COG, Victimized, Roads Untravelled, S2B, UIB, & Tinfoil still surprised me for their unpredictable Folk influences, song structures and genres - and that's 6 songs (HALF the album) - LT could have beaten ATS if all its songs followed suit instead of treading familiar (but cool) ground again. Just my two cents.

    This is where they made the best music. Pandering to a fanbase after they've divided it more times than an infectious bacteria is nothing short of futile, in addition to not prioritizing good music first.

    I'm just mocking you for taking your subjective interpretation of the bands live "passion" and claiming that it's so obvious they enjoy playing LT material more. What are you basing this on? The amount they smile? The amount Chester jumps around?

    I would say in any set, I see the most energy from them during 'The Catalyst' but that's just me. Personally, I would never make the claim that the band enjoys playing ATS or MTM or whatever material more than others. In fact, if we were to base our claim in the frequency a certain song is played, then the band enjoys playing Meteora material the most. I don't know if I believe that, but that's a little stronger of an argument than "I see them really enthusiastic in new videos"

    They say they're positive of the new material for a live setting because of it's energy - it packs a punch, which it does. That doesn't mean they enjoy playing it over other material. When you come out with a new album, the new songs, no matter what they are, are going to be fresh and exciting to play live. If in an interview, someone asks if you're excited about playing the new songs, you're not going to say, "Not really. The songs are really cookie cutter rock and the label pressured us to do things like that."

    I hate to say this but I actually miss the sound and attitude LP had on MTM/ATS. I'm not sure if I liked them going back to some of their old styles. At some points, LT reminds me of a mixture of MTM and ATS, but on the other hand, it doesn't. MTM had poppy songs with poppy structures, but on the other hand, it had some really good songs (TLTGYA, HHH, Valentine's Day, SOTD, etc) and songs that were definitely not traditional LP. Just like ATS.

    I read the first 5 or 6 pages of this thread then decided I needed to revive it and throw in my two cents..

    Over the years Linkin Park has changed more than just their musical style. Just look at their fashion style, art style, etc. Constantly evolving and changing. I don't think anything they've don't is particularly "bad", but I will say some things have not been as enjoyable for me as others. One thing that has stayed fairly constant through the years is their mannerisms and their love for combining great musical styles. People assume that when someone doesn't enjoy LT as much as their older work it instantly classifies them as being on the same level as the "WHY IS THIS NOT ANOTHER HT/METEORA ALBUM!?" crowd, but I feel that just isn't true.

    If you think about it, I mean REALLY think about it, Linkin Park has been making music for a looong time. 15 years if not longer is a safe bet. While a lot of people didn't really become a fan until 2000 with the release of HT, everyone found something different to fall in love with. But I don't think the point most people are getting across is so much that they didn't like the music or the style, but that the album was ovely-mixed, rushed, and uninspired. To clarify, my personal opinion of album enjoyment is as follows;

    ATS->Meteora->HT->LT->MTM
    I listen to anything. I enjoy pop, radio-friendly songs, I enjoy some decent rap, even heavy metal. My mind is always free to wander with whatever tickles my fancy.

    While it's true comparing LT to ATS is just not fair given the amount of time and just plain genius that went into ATS, I still feel they copped out. When previews came out saying the album blended the best aspects of their older albums, I felt lied to after hearing the album. Honestly, and I'm yet to meet someone who agrees with me, LT is probably more of it's own independent sound than any other album, even ATS. Linkin Park have always been about mixing different styles of music and making it beautiful. At least with ATS, while many songs involved some "techno" aspects as people put, there were some heavy sounds, some softer sounds, some ballads, some rapping. It overall felt like more of a variety than LT did.

    Side note, Burn it down honestly feels like it belongs on ATS, and I'm yet to see anyone even say that. I would say it compares a lot to The Catalyst. IMO. It, and UIB belong on an ATS style album.

    I guess what my ultimate point is, is that LT fell extreme flat for me. Maybe it was because I was so hyped and it just didn't hit that mark I was hoping for, but I just feel like they rushed the album and they wanted to please more people than just being creative. Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs on LT, that I listen to regularly, but it, along with MTM are the two LP albums I am just unable to listen to from beginning to end without getting bored. ATS was extremely different, but I didn't have to force it like a lot of people did. Given my love of many different genres of music, it was beautiful and to this day remains one of my favorite albums of ALL TIME.

    Linkin Park, please "wow" me with your next album, because LT just fell short of the mark MANY of us were hoping for!
