I checked this topic earlier today and saw that it still had no replies.

And then I come back and it's just strings.

    Strings everywhere.

And still no one sympathizes with my silly issue (Which isn't nearly as much of one as the first reply makes it out to be, mind you.). :<

But, then, why are there are credited performers for the string parts in the song?

Yeah I never really thought the intro of Faint are strings until my brother broke it to me. I was dumbstruck.

This. It has recorded strings just like Breaking The Habit.

Intro isn't just strings. The synths are still synths. They are just way in the background

I have no idea. The strings on the album version have never sounded "live" to me, and they're definitely the same ones from the demo. Also, during the pre-album hype for Meteora they made it a point to mention how they had live strings on Breaking the Habit, which was a first for them, but there was never any mention of Faint.

There's a low-end cello part that goes through pretty much the entire song. It's most noticeable in the verses where there's no bass or guitar.

Cool, that seems feasible, thanks for clarifying, Astat!

Haha, really? That's cool. Minds being melted by strings :p Do you not think the intro melody to Faint is just really stereotypically "stringy/violiny" sounding? To me, out of all of LP's songs, it has the most distinct and upfront use of a string melody, whereas strings are normally more in the background of LP's work.

I wouldn't consider synth strings as strings just because.. There is something special about it that unless you put it deep in the background it just wouldn' t sound like..strings.
NRL have the best strings. IMO.

The "going out of topic" speed of this thread is awesome :D
And,Fragmuffin, assuming that you wonder, this has been bugging my mind since a loong loong time :D
Also,I think we can understand it more clearly if we listen to the multitrack of the keys : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGdV_YLEflw
If I didn't get it wrong, you mean the two notes in 0.10-ish , right ?
Oh,and if you ask me why is he doing that,i have no idea :D Mike could've just hold down that sustain pedal while recording it,but from reasons unknown,he chose not to :D
