http://www.postalservicemusic.net/ There's rumor of a Coachella appearance. Does this make anyone else really fucking excited?
Billboard has the full story. A Coachella appearance, a tour, and a deluxe 10th anniversary edition of Give Up are all coming. http://www.billboard.com/news/the-p.../the-postal-service-reunites-1008104962.story
The fact that they're rumored to play other festivals this summer makes me hope they're at Bonnaroo in June. Hard to believe it's been 10 years since "Give Up" was released. damn
I get the feeling a big reunion/tour like this could lead to new music. Ben has never exactly said it would *never* happen, plans just never got going and rather than string everyone along, he just told people not to expect it. But with the hype something like this is creating and will continue to create, who knows, they might get going and feel the time is right to start working on some new stuff. You never know. Either way, I'll be going to a show for sure.
I don't know what's holding him back. Death Cab's last few records have been forgettable and his solo effort wasn't great either.
Some more details on the Deluxe edition. And in addition to the two new songs, unreleased remixes, and other bonuses, The Postal Service seems to have relaunched all their social media. Their facebook is updating, and they recently made a twitter and youtube account. Again, I know we shouldn't be expecting a new album any time soon, but this doesn't just look like a one off tour. This looks like the project is officially active for the foreseeable future.
Sorry for double posting, but this needed a bump because new song. Also pre-orders are now available, with this song coming as a free download. http://store.cinderblock.com/the-postal-service/give-up-pre-order
Yeah there seems to be some discrepancy as to whether or not this is a b-side from 2003 or a new song. Ben and Jimmy haven't said anything about it I don't think, but Pitchfork or something said it was a b-side, so I guess we'll go with that. Which is interesting because the tone of the song compared to Give Up is pretty different.
Actually, an update about that. Sub Pop said A Tattered Line of String was started in 2006, and finished last year. So, at some point, a new Postal Service album was a possibility. I guess that's completely dead now though because Ben actually tweeted that there would "never be a new full length." sad. oh well.
