About Holy Grail: Some parts are pretty awesome, some are pretty horrible IMO (was the part from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" even necessary? Let alone, being used like that..). Not really digging it that much so far haha (on first listen, that is).
I must say I feel let down. The only tracks that are amazing to me are oceans, holy grail, Picasso baby, Tom ford, BBC, and crown. 6/16 -____- Everything else is average in my opinion.
This wasn't good enough to be called ''okay''. 4/10 Bored the shit out of me. Production sounded great in the advert, ended up being ultra-lame.
The Teen Spirit bit in Holy Grail was laughably bad. What the heck was that haha! And like someone said its more like JT feat. Jay-Z. - Edit: What a terrible album. It was foolish of me to expect anything from Jay-Z besides name dropping car brands, fashion houses, expensive drinks... basically flaunting (once again!) how rich he is and how awesome his life is. Very creative coming from "the best rapper of our time". I thought at least the beats on this will be decent but even they turned out to be shitty as fuck.
The only track that I liked a bit was Holy Grail (Not 'the smells like teen spirit' part though haha). The rest of the album is just "mehh" for me but I ain't a big hiphop listener so maybe its me..... Lyrics were indeed awful, I heard the word "mercedes" waaayyy too much.... There were some fun one-liners, the best one was: "Aint nobody got time for that"(can't remember which track though). It actually made me laugh. So yeah pretty bad know I think about it again, Kanye's album was also not to good but it had more outstanding tracks for me
It's about 50% good, 40% bad, 10% cringeworthy. "La Familia" is just awful. One of the worst songs I've heard. I feel like getting #jayzpossessions trending.
I'm just waiting for Eminem to come already and destroy everything else! EDIT: I agree with Mark: "La Familia" is one of the worst songs i've ever heard. EDIT EDIT: "Holy Grail" definitely sounds like something that would vaguely belong on The 20/20 Experience if anything. Also, I don't know if it's just me, or does Frank Ocean sound really drowned out in "Oceans"? What happened to him? EDIT EDIT EDIT: Why does every song on this album sound like it has the same exact beat? It's like a long 60-minute song, come on! Even Kanye West with his laziness on Yeezus did better in seven weeks than Jay Z did in the past year! I'm going to shut up now before I go on a thousand-word rant/essay on this album
Me too. He'll do better than Jay and Kanye. Yeezus wasn't lazy... Well, maybe lyrically but I didn't have high expectations for that.
Yeah, I was over Symphony In H about 30 minutes after it was released. It's only a minute and a half random thing though. So did no one else like Magna Carta Holy Grail? I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I think it's solid. It's weird for a Jay-Z album, it's not the more pop stuff he's been putting out since The Black Album but it's not his traditional hip-hop either.
So I finally heard it on Spotify.... HOLY SHIT Somewhereinamerica has got me laughing my ASS OFF. "twerk....twerk...twerk Miley twerk" What kind of line is that?
