I second this. Both Industrial jewels!

Also, Trent was right when he said HM had somehow of a Downard Spiral vibe. I mean, that's not the sound, which is very different, but it's the atmosphere, I can feel a connection between those 2 records. Maybe I'm too influenced by the art direction of HM which is very close to the TDS art.

Various Methods of Escape might be my favorite track right now.

All these songs are solid as fuck. But if I HAD to choose,

^I wrote that bit about a minute after Agent O posted his comment about VMoE. And the interim trying to figure out which song I would choose. I fucking can't.

Good idea. I'm stealing it and claiming it as my own. Except I also did that with ATS, so I guess I'm stealing it back?

I'm starting to get that feeling Minus described a couple of pages back, now I'm digging All Time Low.

For some I can see those two albums being an acquired taste situation.

Really liking HM. I feel the album really takes off after Satellite. Various Methods of Escape is probably my favourite. You can hear a lot of Ghosts/TGWTDT OST in it.

    This made me laugh.

Fourth listen. This is really great, favorite would maybe be Disappointed? Or Satellite?

Oh, and Everything sounds so happy! At least to me.

Is Chut and Lund Minus? So many fucking people keep changing their names I have no idea who anyone is anymore.

The audiophile album is a great idea. That's how I've always wanted to listen to music - exactly the way the artist intended it to sound before having the quality altered by compression. It can actually make a huge difference in what you hear if you have good headphones our soundsystems. I hate mastering my stuff because it destroys all the hard work I put into mixing all the instruments the way I wanted them to sound together. It changes their relationship between one another. All for the sake of loudness? I'd rather hear what the initial final product was. Just turn up the volume, kids.

Satellite and In Two are my favorites at the moment, with Everything not far behind. Love how understated the album is. Like Minus said, it's not really minimalistic, but Trent managed to incorporate a lot of sounds and textures without making the music sound too busy or frenetic.

Every track is just so damned solid. And the album itself is cohesive as fuck. I've attempted to just pick out random songs to listen to but I very quickly just play through the album in earnest instead.

I generally sort my NIN into 3 categories. In the context of NIN itself, the categories would be Great, Good, and Bad. In the context of all music though, the categories are Amazing, Great, and Good. If that makes sense. Basically a "bad" NIN album is still a good record, just not in the context of all the other NIN records.

The reason I say this is generally the order of my favorite NIN albums varies, but only within their respective categories. In other words, the albums in the "Great" category may change order daily, but they'll always be the top albums.

I say that to put my favorite albums listing into context:

    1. Hesitation Marks
    2. The Fragile
    3. The Downward Spiral

    4. Year Zero
    5. Broken
    6. Pretty Hate Machine
    7. Ghosts I-IV
    8. The Slip

    9. With Teeth

If I counted Still (and the only reason I don't is because it's a half-live album), it'd be right after Year Zero.

But back to the point, Hesitation Marks has pretty easily solidified itself as a "classic" NIN album in my ears. It's not leaving that top 3 status any time soon.

I'd tend to have more or less the same ranking, except I'd put With Teeth and The Slip in the same category. Either both good or both "bad". I mean there isn't one record beyond those 2 that seems more strong/weak than the other, it's pretty much the same quality to me.

    My ranking:

    01. "Year Zero"
    02. "The Downward Spiral"
    03. "Ghosts I-IV"
    --
    04. "The Slip"
    05. "Pretty Hate Machine"
    06. "With Teeth"
    07. "The Fragile"

My least-favourite songs (what I consider to be the filler tracks) on "The Fragile" are worse than my least-favourite songs are on "With Teeth" ... but the best songs on "The Fragile" are much better than anything on "With Teeth". It almost evens out for me, and it's all pretty close, anyway

Listened to it about 10 times now, still feeling new and tasty.

I've been trying to define it, it's kind of like The Fragile (Right) and Year Zero are in a love triangle with Downward Spiral before booking a foursome with The Social Network soundtrack, with sick beatz.

Imagine a happier version of Trent Reznor, who went back in time and remade The Fragile to be electronic-focused.
