Zane Lowe's releasing his interview w/ Kanye West bit by bit. Here's the first of four parts:

Pretty sure it's a mix of both.

When he gets intense, it fucking weirds me out. I mean, he brings up some (read: some) valid points, I guess, but he takes it to the extreme.

EDIT: Aaaand it's getting worse as parts go on..

I think fame really got to him. I like his passion towards his art but fame got this dude in a choke-hold. He almost sounds delusional towards the end... completely slurring over his words with his voice shaking and all. His ego has swollen so badly that he's lost every track of right and wrong.

While I laugh at the majority of his rants I do feel this one on a personal level. He is talking candidly about the glass ceiling people run in to when trying to break into a culture primarily ruled by one race or class. This could be rap, rock, fashion, basketball, etc. Being a black kid who is considered thoroughly "white" by hood standards, (I'm more Lupe than 2 Chains), I have felt this. You're automatically "exotic" and dismissed. OH you like NIN? Haha funny! Oh you play guitar? You can't be that good, you're black! Pick up a bass! You're in an indie rock band? You must be drummer! All true statements which hurt. I have to overcoming my skin color in certain cultures.

His escalating anger comes from remember these altercations in probably countless meetings. He has an idea but they look at him like "Oh you rap and we get it Kanye but stick to rap. Leave the fashion world alone." And then a few months later a respected designer comes out with something he may have had the seed for. But they don't feel HE should respresent the fashion world because... well. It could be because his ideas suck. Or other things including race. Only that person in that situation could tell you what they felt the reason was.

His whole "Rockstar" thing is kind of "come on" to me but every person as the top of their craft is there for a reason. He is a rockstar we just like our stars to be humble.

But I feel him when he's going off about Fendi and Co. I know them feels Kanye. They put you in a box based on the culture they think you represent. Just listen to the hate for Miley twerking and Lil Wayne skating. Most arguments take some form of "Well he shouldn't skate because he's Lil' Wayne! A rapper!" This is exactly what Kanye is talking about.

Kanye does make some fair points in that interview, but they're diluted by him being a) a massive hypocrite and b) a raging twat.

That's his biggest problem. His behavior before and after his valid points negate them. Him freaking out on Jimmy Kimmel, who sole job is to make fun of people, heavily dilutes any valid points. He swings wildy from validly angry to childishly angry. And what makes it worse is that no celebrity really sticks out as far as he does when it comes to these kind of outburts and tantrums. It's not like we have a whole group of people flipping out. If you hear about a musician flipping out on someone, a comedian, papparazzi, another artist, you can almost guarantee it's Yeezy. That's not a good look.

Jay is arguably a level above Ye but you don't see him with these problems! He needs to take notes!

Yeah, it's kind of sad because I do think he's an intelligent guy. You can tell from his music that he's well aware of his flaws, but there comes a point when righteous indignation demands some sort of action. He's stuck in this cycle of "Identify problem. Perpetuate problem. Repeat." He complains that people try to pigeonhole him and sometimes don't take him seriously in his ventures outside of music, then does it to another musician... in the same interview. "What the fuck does Gaga know about cameras?!?!"

Just finished watching all the videos. So many tangents! I don't remember any of the points that he made anymore.

That was... entertaining, at the very least. Kanye seems like a nice guy to talk to. Reminds me of one of my college professors, who goes on random out-of-nowhere rants every second in a conversation. :p But that's what makes the conversation really fun, doesn't it?

But yeah, about Yeezus, I personally loved the album, but I can see why many didn't. It's supposed to be polarising. I hold it on par with "Kid A" and ATS. But yeah, as I said, it's completely understandable that many people won't like this kind of music/lyrics/image.

I'd rate it more highly if he went back and re-did those "finished in four hours" lyrics. For his back catalogue, these lyrics are his worst by a long shot. I think musically it's pretty great but you slap bad lyrics over it and nah. Deleted.
