Recently, Rolling Stone sat down with Linkin Park's DJ Joe Hahn to talk about RECHARGED, LP RECHARGE, Stone Temple Pilots, The Mall, a collaboration to design new headphones with Skrillex and more. The interview, found here, can be read below. What are your thoughts of the interview? Anything that Joe said have you excited? Anything you didn't like? Stop by our forums and let's talk about it! Good read. Seems the band are in the very early stages of the new album and it looks like Rick Rubin's back again.
I think it's always nice to hear from someone in the band not named Mike or Chester. I'm curious about this headphones collaboration with Skrillex, hopefully we get more information on that in the future. I did get excited once Joe mentioned Chester's improved songwriting. It's still early, obviously, but I have high hopes for LP6.
Does anybody still think that the soundtrack for "Mall" will be released before the end of this year? ;P
And there it is right there... he said it... what I always suspected and what I was worried about. "Mike [Shinoda] has been on this EDM kick for the last year". With his recent articles about Rock music, I fear he is going to go a little Kayne West and start thinking EDM is the new rock. I really don't want to see much EDM in my Linkin Park music thank you very much.
Ugh, I don't care about the EDM kick that much. As long as it sounds good and hearing that Chester's songwriting is improving is exciting.
To set the record straight, I've been saying for years that people who refer to the band as theirs are doing a disservice to themselves as a fan by not wanting the band to explore or be creative. Not once did I call you a loser, nor did I infer that. I merely was pointing out a fault that a huge portion of Linkin Park fans have. I'm all on board for the band to be as creative as they want to be. If that includes them dabbling in genres of music that I'm uncomfortable with, then so be it. I've been a fan of theirs for 13 years and for 13 years, they have yet to disappoint me. To follow this band means that you need to have an open mind, otherwise I can guarentee that you will be disappointed with them.
Really wish he would have mentioned The Mall Soundtrack, but still a nice read. Great to see an interview with Joe Hahn.
'Mike [Shinoda] has been on this EDM kick for the last year and he's been hanging out with different EDM guys, like he did a day with Avicii, and he's been sending stuff back and forth with Aoki.' Too bad they didn't do any collaboration with Avicii. I would more likely want to see and hear a collaboration between Avicii and Linkin Park rather than Aoki.
