Rapper and Community star Childish Gambino just announced that his second album, titled "Because the Internet", will be released Winter break 2013. Anyone else excited for the new album?
Second Album? He already has a bunch... I loved his EP, a lot of Camp, and a lot of Cul de Sac though. So yeah, totally psyched. I don't even like party music or drinking and Lights Turned On gets me psyched as hell.
Guilty pleasure. Will download and listen and probably will send it down recycle bin after the first couple of weeks.
What the fuck man? Gambino is a mastermind. I'm gonna have this shit on replay for the next two years.
Good call. The other shit we're expecting on the album includes: CENTIPEDE ("Single") UNTITLED (LIVE AT PENN STATE) (Live, Untitled) SO PROFOUND (ft. TRINIDAD JAMES) (Snippet, Unofficial Title) TRACK (ft. KID CUDI) (Maybe?) Oh yes. EDIT: it is believed Make Em Made will be on the album [despite the track not being featured on Royalty, so I'm not sure on this one] ... MAKE EM MADE (ft. STEVE G LOVER) (Live, Maybe?) EDIT 2: new song preview (not too much to it). Album definitely due in December. EDIT 3: listening to the song preview above, it seems Gambino's record label Glassnote Records isn't so keen on the December release date maybe? Interesting. EDIT 4: the track with Kid Cudi has not been completed, as mentioned through this series of tweets between Gambino and Cudi. Gambino already announced the album was done, and yet this song is not, and therefore the song cannot be included.
I'm aware of that. It's just that I've heard claims that it will be featured on the new album. Nothing to back those claims up though. EDIT: that video has the comment mentioning that the track was released on Steve's mixtape "Summer of Steve". Note: the mixtape version is the same as the video posted by minuteforce. Hopefully this means that it will not be featured on the album (because then we got room for fresh shit).
OP is correct. This is his second, non-mixtape/non-EP album. I am very excited. I love all of his EPs and especially love Camp. Being a "white" black guy (Oreo, as other people say) I really identify with the guy. He's not a thug but it doesn't mean he's soft. Especially when he makes jokes about white people at his high school wanting to know what kind of "black" things he's into and he goes "Uh... I really like the music stylings of the Cranberries!" That's so me haha. So, very excited for this. And he's a much better rapper AND singer than Drake. Not to mention producer. (I hate the comparisons) He smashed the BET Cypher. Props to Chut and Lund for posting the song. I was just about to do that if it hadn't been posted already!
Some of you may or may not be aware, but Donald Glover stars in the NBC comedy Community. He has been a part of the show for three seasons now, and coming into the fourth season, it was announced that he [Donald] would only be taking up [first] five of the total thirteen episodes this season. A lot of people assumed that it was so that he could focus on his rap career, whereas Donald has revealed the real reason why here. Some heavy stuff. In the notes that he wrote, he mentions how his label [Glassnote Records] does not want him to release "Because the Internet" this December because the album is not holiday related and he is not "huge". It appears that Donald is eyeing a December release date but his label is not so sure. The @bcuztheinternet Twitter account [previously @RoscoesWetsuit] has two dates in the description, December 24 and December 30. These may be possible release dates. The official Gambino fansite Forever Childish posted "#Donald4December [Details to come tomorrow]" which is most definitely a rally to gather fans and push the label to let Donald release the album on time. Respect, Mr. Glover.
In case people are stopping at "I'm afraid my show will fail", that's not referencing Community. It's referencing his own show that was greenlit recently. The one spoken of in the above post reads "I didn't leave Community to rap. I don't wanna rap. I wanted to be on my own. I've been sick this year. I've seen a bunch of people die this year. This is the first time I've felt helpless. But I'm not on that."
Track(s) with Chance the Rapper and Jhene Aiko confirmed. More features, artists unknown, are also confirmed.
Yeah! That hook. <3 Also, that previously untitled track that was played live is titled Shadows. Album confirmed for December 10. EDIT: live footage from a listening party Gambino held. 44 seconds to sweet, sweet music.
Gambino is definitely killing it right now. EDIT: new track "Worldstar", download [free]. EDIT 2: new LIVE song previews [codename: "fucking best song ever", "the one with the king sample"]
I love what I hear in both of those videos. I'm not a huge fan of "Centipede", "3005" or "Worldstar" but I like everything else that we've heard so far!
