Captain Phillips (2013) - 5/5 - Incredible film and one of the year's best. Tom Hanks was great.

A Very Harold And Kumar Christmas 7/10

Saw it for the second time. First time was in 3D, which i think suits the film way better...as it was of course designed to cater to 3D. still entertaining in regular format though. I wish this movie was treated as a national Christmas tradition like other Christmas themed films.

    Django Unchained - 4/5

A great movie with a great script. Although, Jamie Foxx was outplayed by majority of the supporting actors, I think he did very well. Personally, I must say Leonardo was the best and apparently, he did cut his hand in that one scene for real (so badass).

Prince Avalanche (2013) - 2.5/5 - Quirky little indie film. Had some nice imagery and some fun moments but that's about it.

Timecrimes (2007) - 2/5 - Very weird and confusing plotline that sticks to the standard time-travel film tropes. I really didn't get much out of it.

A Separation (2011) - 5/5 - This film just emotionally drained me. Haven't seen such raw and jarring storytelling in a very long time. I'll have to dig into more Iranian films...

Frances Ha (2013) - 5/5 - One of the year's best indie films. Funny, quirky and very charming. It reminded me of Annie Hall.

The thing Noroi has going for it is the constant mystery of what exactly the supernatural force is that the film centers around; however, while it's an absolutely shocker-after-shocker mystery piece, the complex and sundry plot twists start to feel like too much, which is never good for a horror movie. Although half the scare in a horror movie is finishing it and still not fully understanding the monster/alien/demon/etc., too much mystery leaves unresolved questions that could have been satisfied.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - 8/10

What can I say, I really liked this movie. There are scenes in here that are pretty damn amazing (the barrel scene comes to mind) and well.. that dragon, man. That dragon. I was a bit worried about Legolas and the new Elf, Tauriel, but they didn't feel like they were shoehorned into the movie.

Still, I have some issues with the movie. Again, there are some moments where the computer was embraced a bit too much for my liking. Some camera shots, although impressive, come off as unrealistic because of the use of the "CGI world" built, where Peter Jackson could move freely with his camera. Another issue I have, is that the plot really switches between characters A LOT, especially towards the end. All action but all in different places. And you're seeing it all. It gets slightly tiring after a while. And the movie just ends really abruptly. Of course, that's to be expected when you're turning one book into three movies. I just think "An Unexpected Journey" had more of a closing.

All in all, still a very exciting movie. I just think it suffers a bit from being the second movie in a trilogy. I actually think I'll appreciate it more when I've seen all of the movies.

Which was created for that exact purpose. That did not happen in the book.
