Haven't been here in awhile but this song brought me back! This is the most exciting LP song in a long, long time in my opinion

Do you really feel that wasn't as present on the band's past couple of albums?

I kind of don't. A lot of the guitar parts in ATS and LT were pretty standard in my opinion and it felt like those sections of the songs were covered by Mike. In general I felt the guitar sections have lacked creativity and more of the effort was put into other parts of songs

What's an example of a well-written riff created by Delson, though, just to compare? We don't know exactly who writes or plays what in the studio

One thing we actually do know is that the riff in "Points", for example, was created by Shinoda and is highly-regarded by most LP fans (in the context of LP's guitar parts in general)

Was it? Good to know. Yeah it's def one of my fav. I've always been a sucker for the lying from you riff. Not sure if that was Brad or not, but regardless, I feel like this song brings that "rock hook" back into the picture, if that makes sense

The main point that I've been heading towards, though, on "A Thousand Suns", Delson contributed in every way except playing and writing guitar. In the studio, the band members aren't limited to just the roles you see them inhabit on-stage, and, so, we've been shown that Delson is more than just "the guitars guy".

That, he does! From what we've seen, Shinoda's easily more of a guitar enthusiast than anyone else in the band, but, then, no-one ever gets Delson to talk about guitars anymore. Like with many things pertaining to Linkin Park, we don't get a second side to the story

I remember reading somewhere during the Living Things touring cycle that Brad's favorite song to play live at that point was Lies Greed Misery. You know, the song where Brad's pushing buttons on a sampler and Mike's playing the guitar parts. I think that says a lot about Brad's thoughts on guitars over the past few years.

Is this even the lead single? Has the band ever mentioned this being the lead single?
As far as I've seen, it's just been mentioned as a single. It can even be a promotional single just to give an idea about what's to come. I wish Mike and the band would open up more about this.

The first single of an album is the lead single.

This is the first single from the new album.

    It's the lead single.

I think he was referring to a promotional single which is not released for the reason of climbing charts but only to tell people that there's an album. Or to give a taste of it. Those are often less radio-friendly than the actual lead single. They're also often free.

But this is quite surely not the case here.

EDIT: I just looked it up, it's called buzz or advance single (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotional_single#Buzz_singles_and_advance_singles)

There's no such thing as "promotional single" before the lead single. Hence what Minus said.

If it was a "promotional thing" like LGM or whatever, it wouldn't have been advertised as a single, but merely as a "new song". Guilty All The Same IS the lead single off LP6.

Well, let's take Coldplay's new album. Isn't Magic the lead single rather than Midnight?

But Midnight is actually on the album and you can't buy it on its own. Midnight is basically the equivalent of LGM except Midnight was released before the lead single Magic.
