I'm all for the direction of this album, but unless if there are a ton of strong lyrics, memorable guitar solos, a bunch of unexpected turns, etc, I don't think this kind of record will top A Thousand Suns. A Thousand Suns has so much diversity...Musically, there's a song with rapping over tribal drums, a song with screaming over 80's pop synths, a 6 minute electric-dance anthem, a chilling acoustic performance, and well executed pop songs. Lyrically, there's politics, love, heartbreak, anger, hopelessness, and hope. And all of this is somehow meshed into one cohesive album. It's beautiful, and the closest thing the band has come to a masterpiece. Of course it still has plenty of imperfections, which is why I still have hope that it can one day be topped. I won't prematurely say that The Hunting Party won't top ATS, but it'll be really damn hard for it to do that.

I agree with you that it will be difficult to top ATS, but I believe this album should be judged on its own criteria. I mean, ATS never was a rock album, it was more of a "genre-busting" music album, as evidenced by your depictions of it. THP, from the outset, has been classified as a full on rock, guitar-driven, heavy album.

The question is, within this category, is the album diverse? Within guitar-driven, heavy music, how varied, creative and inspired will the music be? Will we hear unusual song structures, unconventional sounds and unexpected turns? Perhaps its more fair to judge it based on that.

Yeah, the trending feature isn't available for everyone yet. There's usually a box on the side that shows what's trending, but sometimes, it shows it this way:

The song is good but honestly it's nothing new. People need to calm down. So far Guilty All the Same is still more fresh.

As I said on the other topic, I'm not a fan of Wastelands. I'm getting tired of Mike's When-They-Come-For-Me-esque rap style. I need his raps to be more grave, like Faint.
And Chester's part melody seems like a happy kid singing.
The guitars are fine, almost remembering Points of Authority.
    Nothing new IMO.
But well, I'll just wait, it will definitely grow on me. Rock in Rio will definitely be a fucking good time!

Don't tell me what to do! I don't need to be calm!

I like the song A lot. Been listening to the live video on replay and I like it a lot! It doesn't need to be "fresh" even though to me it is.

And it's all opinions man, I can be exicted if I want!

I honestly think THP will be LPs best album to date!

I agree, the When-They-Come-For-Me-esque rap style is kind of bad. Was so sad during the whole LT that he used this style. Was also hoping for his older style now that they "brought rock back" into the band - but no. Other than that, it is great. Based on the live performance (which is quite unfair, but still) I prefer Until It's Gone over this one actually. Guilty All The Same being the weakest of the three (not instrumentally, but Chester's performance really lowers it). Still, based on what we've heard, it is at least a solid 8/10.

WTCF Rap is the best of Mike's collection. and the Rap part in Faint demo is 100 better than the original one.

If I have to be honest, despite the fact they've trying to claim that songwriting had been a vital part of the entire creative process, judging by the songs we have so far... It's just not as surprising and refreshing as their earlier works. Going heavy is a good thing, as I'm getting to heavier music as well... But I just can't see the whole songwriting-comes-first from the snippets and singles we have right now.

    My humble opinions, though.
