Um, yeah. Thought it was only me, but I guess that's not the case. The vocals in this song's verses sound extremely weird, and even though I really don't think they'd use autotune or something live, it definitely sounds like that.
They've been using autotune on studio recordings and recorded live material since the beginning of their career. But this tour is the first time they used live-autotune in front of an audience. It's come full circle now, if you will.
Same here lol. I thought the show finished when it never started. Also, everyone talking about autotune, they never used autotune. But they do use vocal enhancers in the studio, everyone does. There's a difference. What they used on The Catalyst is the closest they've come to using autotune.
I can 100% confirm that they DO use Auto Tune on Chester's vocals live. It's something they've been doing on select songs/portions of songs for the last couple years, but it's more prominent throughout the majority of the set now. I'd suspected it for a while, but the live version of Guilty All the Same is a dead giveaway. GATS is in the key of D minor. D minor scale = D, E, F, G, A, Bb, C, D. However, GATS uses the harmonic minor scale, where the C is raised to a C#. Whoever set up the Auto Tune plugin for the live version messed up and used the natural minor scale instead. Every time Chester sings those C# notes in the verses ("think we should" and "do what you" in the first verse, and "hands are un-" and "cannot be" in the second verse), the Auto Tune plugin mistakenly "snaps" those notes up to D, because it thinks the C# notes shouldn't be there. Stuff like this is why I've never liked the idea of using Auto Tune in a live setting, you're setting yourself up for all kinds of weird glitches. Anyone saying they've never used Auto Tune is horribly misinformed. They've been Antares endorsers since Hybrid Theory, and in the Waves video where Mike's talking about using the Metaflanger plugin on The Catalyst, you can clearly see the Auto Tune plugin open right next to it.
this is so sad! im at rock am ring next weekend and i hope they won't use it. sorry LP but .. IT IS A SHAME
