I appreciate the talent but this gimmick will probably make them boring to listen to after a while. Unless they mix it up enough of cause.
Gimmick? You mean bass + drums? I'm hoping Mike is creative enough to be writting great riffs for a while. Also, looks like Loose Change will be on the album. It's a song they've been playing live for some time.
Bass + Drums is definitely not a gimmick That album title though.... I could see that being called a Gimmick JK
It looks like it's actually self-titled, but it does make it out to seem like it's The Debut Album! Stick around for their second LP, The Second One, and there third album, Tres.
Self-titled makes more sense, god damn it. I believed that because of your other post. I didn't even think anything of it haha
Well it is a gimmick if they ONLY use drums and bass for ALL their songs. Unless they want to have that standard/classic alternative rock sound then I guess it is all good. Sometimes less is more. I personally just like a little more layers than that. Unless this guy is fucking Flea or Tom Morello's counter part I just feel like that would limit their options. Like Twenty One Pilots only consists of a drummer and a singer but they make it work because they shake things up on the records. I do like what I have heard so far through. Those riffs are actually pretty great.
Almost every band have some kind of gimmick or use gimmicks all the time. Like a lot of people already have said things like this: "Omg are they only two? Is there no Guitar? REALLY?!" So yeah that is totally a gimmick, if we look at the definition of the word: "something designed to attract extra attention, interest, or publicity." It just means something that makes them stand out from other bands --> Even the title the NEW ROCK DUO. It's not a bad thing at all. My favorite song from the Beatles(A Day in the Life) is fucking full of gimmicks but I still love that song.
It depends on how you explain the word "gimmick". It can just be a way to get things done, or a special feature for the sake of having a special feature.
That's just not how we used the word in my music class in college, I didn't even know it could be seen as something negative.
Fucking great song! Definitely need to rewatch that music video, but it really is kinda hard on the eyes. Loved the way they used the effects though
