What's more disappointing is Lorde being named the top rock artist of the year, her album being named the top rock album of the year and Lana Del Rey's album being called a "Rock album" as well.

This meme pretty much sums up how I feel when people and the media called the RINO'S (Rock In Name Only) rock acts.

Do Eminem sales! I want to compare the biggest rap artist against the biggest rock artist of the 2000's.

Lorde and Lana Del Rey are alternative artists. Alternative is related to and often equated with alternative rock. There's nothing to be "disappointed" about here.

    #36?

Do they need a new marketing strategy?

It's just that over a decade out nobody really gives a shit about Linkin Park anymore. Or even rock in general, if you crunch the numbers they do surprisingly well for a non rap or country act.

At this point I doubt there's anything they would do that would make them multi-platinum anymore, people think that if they switch to EDM or some other trendy shit they'll be right back on top forgetting A Light That Never Comes was out at around the peak of wubstep and was actually sort of a bomb as far as LP singles go.

#36 in a global chart is not bad for an Hard Rock album like The Hunting Party. Just think that #7 are One Direction with 1,9 million copies and number #37 are are The Black Keys with 877,000 copies, so between number #7 and #37 there is only 1 million difference ;)

BEST U.S. SELLING HARD ROCK ALBUMS OF 2014

    1. The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell: Volume 2 (Five Finger Death Punch)
    2. The Hunting Party (Linkin Park)
    3. Hail To The King (Avenged Sevenfold)
    4. .5: The Gray Chapter (Slipknot)
    5. Sonic Highways (Foo Fighters)

Wow they're outsold by an album that came out in 2013? Not good.

They're actually inbetween TWO albums that came out in 2013, but I feel you're focusing too much on release dates. The fact that they were #2 overall when THP debuted at number 3 and didn't really produce any big singles is a pretty impressive feat considering the band's declining album sales.

I'd love to get an updated number for Imagine Dragons' Night Visions and possibly Bring Me The Horizon's Sempiternal. :)
