The cello alone will make it too much effort. It won't be played as is.

Gotta say the harmonization of "shadows floating over, scars began to fade..." in the first and third chorus is fucking awesome

Mike's vocals on harmony are fucking incredible. Dude is seriously underrated.

He's also a bit overrated by some. I remember when Rebellion dropped and people wanted Mike solo albums with just him singing. His singing voice is quite nice but I don't think it has enough variety for something like that. He shines with Chester, like in this song.

Agreed. Shinoda's singing voice couldn't carry a whole album, but he kills it with the occasional song like "Roads Untraveled", "Rebellion" or "Devil's Drop". It's an element that the band are doing a good job utilising so far. They really know how to take advantage of the different vocal timbres and registers, and strategically use them in the songwriting to create variety within a track and within an album too.

I like the mix of Shinoda and Bennington on this new version of "Masquerade" and would welcome more songs where they really sing together and share lead parts

I was thinking of something quite similar to that, I didn't think of MTG though, that would be very interesting. I'd also add The Little Things, In My Remains and Easier to Run to the list. The trick is finding songs that would work well acoustically but would be different enough to the original to warrant inclusion. Interesting to think about.

As someone said earlier, an acoustic album/EP feels like the next logical step after The Hunting Party. It seems weird to say that, but it makes sense. THP showed the band at (arguably) their most intense, and an acoustic release would contrast that beautifully by showing them at their most raw and vulnerable. It would be a great 180 for the band, and would surprise a lot of people expecting another hard sounding record after THP. Granted it'd invalidate Mike's "state of rock" comments that he made in the lead up to their newest record, but it would also confirm once again that Linkin Park aren't afraid to take the road less traveled.

And since LP are all about doing the unexpected, now would be a good moment for them to pull this off.

Again, I think that this kind of music is gonna be one of the big things this year so there's that as well. For better or worse

I seriously just want an LP folk/blues album. Find ways to incorporate Hahn's electronics in new, subtle ways. Like blues rock LP meets Stars or Blue Hawaii or Fever Ray of The Knife.

I don't think it would invalidate his comments at all. Going pop with new music would do that.

Fair point, but I, for one, would now love an EP of acoustic-driven originals just the same  - can't deny it.

So, actually, wouldn't it be unexpected that they make a hard record?

I think they mean the first official studio recording of an "acoustic version" of a song. Not fan made or only performed live. Messenger doesn't count because it's not a "version", it's just acoustic to begin with.

After "The Hunting Party", I'd say that it's more than reasonable to assume that the fanbase at large fully expects another heavy gtr-driven rock album rather than a set of mellow acoustic-based tracks.

I agree with you, looking at the fanbase as a whole.
But when looking at our community, it would be actually unexpected that they make a hard record, because most people assume they'll make a mellow album as an act of "unpredictability", while our community actually predicts this. Pretty weird. :D

To be honest, I also think they'll make a less "visceral" album. It would be unexpected, if they make another visceral one. LP's general unpredictability make them predictable again, in a way. :O
