According to a Rolling Stone article released today, Fort Minor has released a remix of the song "Get A Dog" by artists Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman. The article includes a detailed interview with Mike Shinoda, explaining how he got involved with Homeboy Sandman and what led to the release of this remix. The original song was featured on an Aesop/Sandman collaborative EP, Lice, last year. The original track samples Linkin Park's iconic 2000 hit, "One Step Closer." According to Mike, To hear Mike's remix of "Get A Dog" and to read his interview with Rolling Stone, check out the article here. This song, nah. It's nothing against Mike, mostly dislike the vocals. I also don't like how empty the chorus sounds/feels. It just feels like there's something missing. I'll probably never listen to that again.
This isn't far off from what I'd want a Fort Minor album to be. Shinoda's beats but none of Shinoda's rapping.
Lice EP was one of my favorite projects of last year. Great to hear Mike keeps up with Aes. Cool remix.. I actually dig it more than the original version. Grimy ass beat!
So the original sampled "One Step Closer", then Mike returns the favour. Wonder if he listens more extensively to Aesop Rock's material, probably one of the best lyricists I've heard in rap (if you're not bothered by abstract/obtuse content). The skeletal segment beginning at 1:34 coupling with Aesop's rap is my favourite part of the remix. Great beat overall.
I love how the reactions to this track are either: A. This is fire or B. WTF this is garbage There's like no middle ground .
