The fourth of the bimonthly released LPU 15 tracks has now been released to LPU members and it's a song called GRR.

In order to download it you need to have a LPU 15 membership. The song is free and can be downloaded here.

Along with the song another installment of "LPU Track-By-Track" was released where Mike talks about what inspired the sound of the song and where the name came from ... or didn't come from. You can check that out here.

Do you like the track? Do you think the wait for the next one now will be too long? Come and discuss in our forums.

Man, I really had high hopes for this demo, given how good most of the '90s era demos have been, both on LPU 15 and previous LPUs. Despite its disappointingly short length, GRR is still a very solid instrumental that definitely had potential. Why LP couldn't have expanded a bit more on this demo and made it at least around 1:00 in length is a mystery.

Even so, it has an almost Fort Minor vibe, if Fort Minor had been formed in the 1990s, as it does have a hip-hop feel to it IMO.

Edit: Okay, it no longer is a mystery why this demo did not progress any further than what we have currently. Mike explained in the Track-by-Track for GRR that it was originally meant to be a standalone hip-hop track with all rapping, but once Cure for the Itch came along on Hybrid Theory, and Nobody's Listening became a part of Meteora, LP felt that there was no real need for this track, so they stopped working on it.

You could say that LP cured their collective itch for a hip-hop influenced instrumental when they no longer needed GRR, which nobody was listening to until now, anyway.

I like the vibe on it. Very early-linkin-park-ish.

As a Linkin Park fan, I'm glad I can have this "full" demo in an official way.
    It's short? Yeah... but it's a demo.
2 months for 27 secs? Maybe they could include it on the CD or release 2 demos this month to compensate.

But hey, I can't really "bitch" about it.

The song name is clearly about our reaction after acknowledging its 27 second lenght.

And I just wonder why nobody even mentioned that they used that demo just 2 months ago in a short studio clip.

And that we've actually already got the whole song in the "Making of Meteora". Plus the song in the video even has an additional short drum part which is not in this released version.
https://youtu.be/t-1U0lPlpxY?t=3m13s (the part is starting at 3:33)
So, unless this part was solely made for the video, it seems they actually got a bit farther with the development of the song than what this release now shows. But somehow they decided to not release everything.

Maybe it was just the longest take they had recored, while they had additional short experimental tracks. Would fit, as, in the video, the part with the additional drums is not connected to the first part.

I wonder if they have even more takes of that beat lying around, even if they only feature slight differences. Probably.

    --

Edit: Poor Robert called it masterfully, but probably imagined the song being a tad longer... :kappa:

I have an odd question, but are transcripts for the latest LPU track by track videos available?

Sorry for bumping this again, but this is another demo you can hear on the Frat party DVD about a minute into the main feature when Rob is talking, there it is playing in the background.
