By the way the piano version of Heavy but especially Burn it Down and Crawling are AMAZING!

Related: I still like the initial piano teaser a whole lot better than how the final recorded version turned out.

I mean, you can listen to the acoustic version. That's basically how that would sound like if completed in that style (I personally just wanted Mike to sing the verses...)

Mike would have made this song better if only he had sang as well

Was that guy who sang on Burn it Down really Mike Shinoda?:WTF:
I've never heard him like that before.

I did check that out, but what I liked about the initial teaser is how slow, sombre and raw it sounded. Chester's delivery and the solid rhythm take that away, for better or worse, but there are pros and cons to both approaches, really. Matter of preference.

EDIT: and, yes, like I've said, Shinoda singing the verses would have made a nice compromise in my eyes.

I guess what especially with a more pop orient direction, Mike could deliver some smoothy lines.

Tbh the track grew on me a little bit, which I didn't expect.

But I still think the structure of the song is really boring. Why didn't they add some interesting parts to it like an interesting bridge or a solo or something, rather than repeating the same chorus and verse all over again. I mean the song is only 3 minutes long, but it still manages to get boring after you heard the chorus for the third time in that short period of time. But I guess since it's supposed to perform well on the radio and in the charts, it's got to be accessible, therefore it's that repetitive.

@rocker94 Sound awesome, especially the part after 2:30!

I agree, I think the chorus could have used a bit more variation between however many times it appears throughout the arrangement

This. I'd rather MattLP not post on our forum at all than make throwaway comments about suicide. That's absolutely despicable, disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.

Totally agree with both of you. I love poppy melodies, but I just hate the repetition. Unfortunately, often the two are inseparable, and even on their least poppy tracks, LP have a habit of having to repeat every chorus they write three times. I wouldn't mind a song as poppy as Heavy if it had a twist or two, say, having two completely different choruses (like Primo chorus vs. IBG chorus) and a chill instrumental solo (say, a piano solo). Sure, it'd make it slightly less commercial, but it'd retain the poppy vibe the band wanted while giving the song much more depth and making it more interesting, IMO. For me, I have no problem with the overall sound or melodies, but if they do go after that sound I'd much prefer if they tried to move away from the big, dramatic, repeated choruses on every song.

To be fair, Kiiara leads the whole second chorus, and that makes it sufficiently different from the first chorus. So, really, what it is for me is, after the bridge, I think the song just kind of stays the same - maybe you'd say it stagnates - for a little too long and, then, ends.

Mike is one of those rare singers that age well over time. His raps are still good to me, but his singing is far more interesting now, not to mention better. He can hit certain notes and melodies which he couldn't in the past during HT-Meteora era.
