Man...I have no problem with a change in direction or the introduction of new influences. I thought A Thousand Suns was really interesting just because of how different it was. But this just isn't good. It's generic modern pop. Any pop artist in the world could have created this same song.
Any rock artist in the world could have created What I've Done, or Mark The Graves too. Hell, Rebellion could've (and basically WAS) created by System of a Down, Guilty All The Same could've been written by Avenged Sevenfold. The important thing is while yes, any pop artist could have created this song, it's still new territory for LINKIN PARK. Blackstar by David Bowie could've been created by any art rock/jazz fusion group, but it was new for Bowie. 808s and Heartbreak could've been created by any R&B artist, but it was new for Kanye West. Just because someone else has done it before doesn't mean it can't be new territory for another musician.
Just got my email. At this point, I'd be content if we didn't get any other songs until May. I'm sure that won't be the case, but at least I feel personally satisfied now lol. Still digging both songs. Love the direction the album is going. It's so jarring going from Lying From You to When They Come for Me to Castle of Glass to Guilty All the Same to Battle Symphony.
I could see us getting another song around the same time date in April. At least I would like that. Honestly I'd rather the whole album come out now haha
I didn't mind the lyric video for Heavy at all, like so many did. I felt some of the effects were kind of cool. But I really like the Battle Symphony lyric video. A lot of the imagery used reminds me a lot of my travels (mostly by road) through most of California and a lot of Nevada. A trip that holds good memories for me, up to and including the relationship hint in the video with that girl lol Even with a lyric video Linkin Park finds a way to connect with me... there will never be another band like this for me, in my lifetime
That's a beautiful lyric video. Whoever shot it should be credited. Is Battle Symphony the song written by Jon Green? Or is it another song?
Wow. This is a beautiful video! It's just the colors in this video itself is something you never see from a linkin park video. That mixed with the feel good music, it has made me love the song even more. I cannot wait for the album.
New member here. Been a LP fan for a long time now. I'm not feeling this song. It sounds too much like a Taylor Swift song.
Of course, now that it's already been written, recorded and released by someone else for them to imitate.
You just showed you are dumber than I thought. Everyone was whining that all members are not playing on Heavy but they did. The thing is you just don't know how to differentiate among layers that who is playing what. All band members are playing on both of the tracks.
That's the problem of pop music. They're all similar in one way or another, especially when pop songwriters who can write hits are hired by anyone looking for a hit. Battle Symphony doesn't sound like a Taylor Swift song, but the lyrics probably reminded him of one. I hear my battle symphony All the world in front of me We Are never ever ever Getting back together
This reminds of Derek's statement that people have a misconception that Pop is a piece of cake and requires zero creativity.
That's the problem with any genre: all songs which fall under a certain genre have to have particular characteristics which define that genre. Those lyrics probably do remind people of Taylor Swift songs, if Taylor Swift songs are their only reference for what current pop music (or music, period) is. Either that or it turns out T-Swift has a fucking monopoly on any and all lyrical phrases, melodies and sonic aesthetics which Linkin Park have mistakenly used on their new album ...
