Not good, since I've been having these same sentiments towards some of the promo singles ('building up to no release') and had hoped they were just fluke duds.
I wouldn't worry... JB Hi Fi Stack? No hopers masquerading as journalists/professional reviewers. Always found the JB "culture" to be elitist and full of snobbery. After hearing 6 of the album's 10 tracks I can quite comfortably say this is the most confident I've felt about an upcoming Linkin Park record in years. I've loved everything they've put out before but on every album there's at least 2 songs I'll skip on each play and several that were "growers" for me. Each of the 6 songs we've heard so far have been instant thumbs up from me. And referring back to older comments in this thread - LOL to whoever said Heavy hasn't been a success. Heavy is the first LP track since maybe New Divide to get barely any radio play in Australia. So shoosh.
One thing that upsets me, and I love this song, is how it's Co written by a Rhianna song writer. I just don't get why they have other song writers involved. They never have before. Makes me feel like maybe the lyrics in this song didn't come from their heart
I had that hope, but I don't see how that would happen with the end of this song, unless the album versions of both songs are a bit longer than the single versions.
I was a freshman in high school when ATS came out. I'm already in college but I do remember that that was the start of my Linkin Park phase in life.
This song is put together very well musically, as well as lyrically. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
You just have to be a part of the writing session and have an idea that ends up in the song to receive writing credit. For "Heavy", Julia Michaels wrote "Holding on.../Why is everything so heavy?" then left a few minutes later. Her partner is also credited because "They're a packaged deal". It's not that serious.
I mean this as sincerely as possible: you've never worked with a real songwriter then. There's more to it than you think and the output still depends on the artist. The band is like a basketball team and producers and writers are like head and assistant coaches. A crappy team will still be kind of crappy even with good coaching. Sometimes you just need another opinion or help articulating your ideas
This is so f*cking good. Flawless. The first song from this album I get that "LP-feeling" off. Exactly what I was hoping for. Rating so far: Invisible Heavy Good Goodbye Battle Symphony
Listening to the song on repeat a dozen times allowed built up emotion. Constant stream of tears. Finally transitioned into Heavy which added another layer. Fuck, I'm quite the mess. Can't wait to hear how each song transitions, probably my favorite aspect of their albums.
Critics hate LP on average, and with the backlash against this album, I wouldn't be shocked if reviews were negative or lukewarm. Remember that horrendous Rolling Stone "review" for The Hunting Party?
Someone I know just texted me saying this song sucks because they sound like a boy band. I mean, I think "boy band" is pushing it a bit.
