Yeah, I didn't have the highest expectations either, but I pretty much fell in love with it on my second listen. Have you ever seen the Pitchfork Classic video on Souvlaki? It's crazy how shitty the British press was to the band around the time Souvlaki came out. Makes the success of their reunion that much more satisfying.
Just watched that Pitchfork documentary and really enjoyed it. I love the history behind that album and the frustration the band dealt with inside themselves and towards their environment. Especially the press trying to convince the band that they were history before the album even got a chance to live out its release. It proves that time is really the only test - Slowdive prevailed over most of the bands that were supposed to make them irrelevant. I guess having a good record (and sound) is more important than your place in culture at that time.
So I recently found this site called whosampled.com, and on this site you can see how artists have sampled stuff, and how their music has been sampled by others. Through that, I found this interesting vaporwave song. If you don't know what vaporwave is, it's basically this strange genre involving slowing down samples and mixing them together to create this...strange sound. A lot of it is really cool though. This vaporwave song heavily samples slowed down vocals of a certain Linkin Park song, and you can also hear some of the instrumentals. Anyone wanna guess which song it is? https://deathsdynamicshroud.bandcamp.com/track/--84
Anyone know a good radio station online I can tune into for contemporary electronic music? Fav genres are drum n bass, 2-step garage, acid house (acid techno? not sure what the proper name is), psychedelic trance, progressive trance. I obviously know only older styles of electronic music and named those genres just as a starting point. I feel bad for being so ignorant of this great form of music.
Damn! Enter Shikari have just released a new single called Supercharge. And it's awesome as always! Plus they anounced a huge UK/Euro Tour. I'm probably gonna see them in Munich in December. Hurray
Jealous. I barely missed them on the TTTS anniversary tour. I have mixed feelings on Supercharge, especially Big Narstie's verse.
There's a new Carly Rae Jepsen song called "Cut to the Feeling" and it's so good. PLEASE BE A NEW ALBUM
Pretty sure it's a non-album track. I remember reading that just like Emotion was heavily influenced by 80s pop, her new record will be influenced by 70s pop, such as ABBA. That has my hyped as FUCK. I'd also like to share this little album I found. Here lately, I've really been loving synthpop and synthwave, and this very much fills that itch. It's so fucking good.
Anyone else a fan of The Chain Gang Of 1974 on here? I'm sure most of you would recognize their song from GTA V, Sleepwalking. But I've checked out more of their music, and some of their songs are solid. Some really good indietronica / electro pop music. They have a new album coming out on June 23 and I've loved every single they've released so far, so I'm sure most songs from that album will end up on my summer playlist
