Earlier today Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 and Mike Shinoda appeared at the Midem event in Cannes, France and gave a keynote about songwriting. They discussed their process in writing and at the same time wrote a new song live on stage. You can watch the entire recorded live stream of this here below.

Mark says towards the end of the video that they should go back to the hotel to finish the song, whether this actually happens and we'll actually get to hear it remains to be seen. Maybe the two bands will play it together at their two #BlinkinPark dates on the upcoming Linkin Park North American Tour later this summer?

What do you think of the song? Do you think we'll get to hear a finished version of it? Come and discuss in our forums.

I wasn't able to watch the full video yet but I think this really cool!

Two of my favorite musicians writing a song in raw form together in front of an audience!

I would have loved to be there in person!

The arp and the generic pop progressions reminded me of the uplifting synthpop music you might hear in 80s coming-of-age films

    Mike delivered.
Mark is a good bassist, not really a good guitarist or singer.

Honestly, I would much rather just hear Mike make a song on his own (maybe with Brad on guitar).

Interesting comments here. I personally thought it was extremely awkward, and that was mostly Mike's fault. Half of the time he wasn't communicating to Mark or to the audience, just getting caught up in tweaking his track, and forgetting to use his mic when he did talk. The track itself was pretty random (chipmunks, seriously?) and not particularly in line with their supposed goal (taking a topic from the audience and turning it into a song). Meanwhile, Mark was actually trying to come up with chord progressions and lyrics, but Mike was so caught up with his track that he forgot it was a team effort, so Mark was just standing around waiting on him for the majority of the session. Don't get me wrong, I love Mike, he's my biggest musical inspiration, but he's just not great at PR stuff.

That's pretty much how it's always been; Mike fucking around with something electronic and then someone else contributes something when he asks for it. He's referred to as "the CEO of Linkin Park" for a reason.

I already like this better than OML. Btw, am I the only one who wants this as a finished track?
