Linkin Park should have played HT in full for Hellfest

Festivals shouldn't conform to one genre

No Waiting for the End/One More Light - this was the shorter festival set.

As a fellow smartass, I find him hilarious. I'd rather he be a snarky little troll if it keeps him from losing his temperature again.

No I'm glad he's being this way. I've seen many people (including people I call my friends) lobbing insults at this band, as if somehow insulting them and their music is going to make them tempted to change their current sound or change setlists just to please them.

It's not Chester or the band that needs to change their attitude, it's those fans. People need to realize that the band can go pop, edm or whatever "non-rock" genre they feel like and there's absolutely nothing those disgusted fans can do about it because it's not their music. It's Linkin Park's. Those fans made the choice to buy those earlier albums, just like they can make the choice not to listen to the band's current stuff. Nobody is pointing a gun at their heads.

Flipping the band off when they play poppier music or tweeting hateful shit at the band just makes those people a douche. Big whoop. The band went pop. To those fans I say: Either come back next album to see if they've changed to something you'd like, or move on and get over it. I'm glad Chester has been this way.

Maybe its my english or something but my point is: if you headline a Metal Festival (which you are aware of) you know people expect that you perform a set that rocks. Its not mature that people booed etc. but the band should expect it. They could have atleast turn doen their atttitude for these "special" festivals imo. Because its not like a show of their own with just fans but also a show where people want to go out and rock. Just my point of view here. I dont like that Chester put all these people in one box.

I tend to disagree with this sentiment. Nothing wrong with playing one or two heavier songs but why should they change it up for one festival just because it's considered metal? They've earned the right to do what the fuck they want.
Promoters know that Linkin Park are a very diverse band and if they're booked for a metal festival such as Hellfest then good on them.
Overall, their reception was fine and from the videos I've seen it looked like they had a good time.

    At the same time.
    1. I'm glad that they didn't change the setlist for Hellfest.
    2. Why the fuck would you book Hellfest on this tour. Genre-based festivals are still very much a thing, and you don't belong at this one. Genre is not dead. No matter how much you'd like it to be.

But think of it like this: there is not a single album the band has done since their 'change of sound' that has pleased everybody. You either have complaints they sound too much like U2 (Minutes To Midnight), that the guitars are gone (A Thousand Suns), that the album is a step back from ATS (LIVING THINGS), that it feels forced (THE HUNTING PARTY) or that it's a sell out album (ONE MORE LIGHT).

So no, they shouldn't tone down or alter anything imo. Because no matter what, someone's going to be pissed.

Honestly he earns the right to be a douche when he has a point. A lot of people dislike OML because it's pop (which is fine), but then go on to slam the band and say they don't like it because they're "selling out", despite the fact that they'd have no qualms with the band releasing another Hybrid Theory or Meteora or including more of those songs in their sets (which would be selling out). I'd almost respect these people more if they were consistent and called both moves "selling out", but they don't.

Now I know that the people asking for a heavier set aren't all the same people that were calling them sellouts, so yeah, it's not fair to lump them all into the same category, but honestly with the number of times I've seen people say things like "LP sold out, they should go back to their roots" while completely missing the irony in that statement, I get why the band feels the need to laugh at that. Maybe it's a bit different because it is a metal festival, but still.

When you're apparently too soft for Hellfest and Download but you're too unpopular/rock/mainstream to headline Glastonbury and Bonnarroo.
