i think it's kind of unethical for LP to play on Hellfest. They are on the wrong place at the wrong time, they don't belong there.

Watch this Rock In Rio 2001 video, it's "Carlinhos Brown" playing, a brazillian reggae-ish singer.

He just didn't belong there. Being booed is nothing compared to have lots of cups and bottles thrown at you.

Wait it's cool to say things like "the new album was obviously made in a fashion that they believed would garner them considerable mainstream attention" on here now?

Unpopular opinion: I like OML much more than I liked THP. And this comes although I love Meteora.
So I think that it's safe to say that opinions tend to differ. ;)

Nowhere, it's not a direct quote of something someone said. it's a generalization of a criticism that was up until a few weeks ago it seemed as though the majority of posters weren't taking to kindly.

Though on that note, the new album was obviously made in a fashion that they believed would garner them considerable mainstream attention.

This may be backtracking in this thread, but i have been itching to know. How is changing a setlist for a festival show considered a sellout move? Bands do it all the time. Usually putting more well known songs into the set since the average concert goer may not know anything beyond their radio hits.

The audience consists partly of tourists, teens and people dressed as Pikachu. And then I hear it is unethical for LP to play there. I guess I have seen it all

I agree with you. OML is leagues better than THP. THP is the only bad Linkin Park album in my opinion. Could have easily been their best if the whole album was like the second half (starting at Rebellion), it's a shame really.

It's a Metal festival. Their new album is pop, it's not hard to put 2 and 2 together that Linkin Park should not have been playing Hellfest. It's cool they did but almost every festival has an audience for a reason.

Lol I'm sure they made it to be a smash single and top the pop charts, not saying they haven't don't that in the past but they did it because it's what's trendy. Chester the band and other fans can say all they want about not selling out all they want but the reality is they kinda did in a way. This band used to be experimental and stuff not to sound like something generic. HT is different l, MTM is different ATS is different LT is different, THP is different than what anyone else had done, OML sounds like everything on the radio there's nothing different about it, there's no creativie challenge, half the band isn't even present on the album, they had to bring in people to write the songs I Mean idk if LP are in that state of we dont know what kind of music to make so let's just make something that's really popular and trendy, sure lots of fans will hate us for it but oh well we make what we want to and rightfully so. I mean ATS makes OML look like master of puppets imo.

Take for example a band called Cash Cash. Their first album was Pop Rock with a little bit of Electronic influence. They were a band that fit well with in the Warped Tour scence. After that one album they switched to a completely EDM group. They now play EDM festivals like Paradiso and EDC Las Vegas. If they got invited to a rock festival, or Warped Tour again they would be out of place.

I'll say that Linkin Park is in a strange situation with how many genres they are but when it comes to a straight up metal festival you could almost argue they didn't belong even before OML was released, so why would they belong now?

I'll give the band props for not letting that stop them though. But I do feel they should have at least added Rebellion and Given Up into the set just for this one show.

I don't see Shawn Mendes or Ed Sheeran making something that sounds like Sorry For Now or Halfway Right. OML has unique and creative moments even if your biased worldview against pop keeps you from seeing that.
