Yesterday, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda unexpectedly sent out a call on Instagram for LA-based fans to turn up to a music video shoot and potentially appear in said video, described as "something for [a] solo album". As seen above, the post called for fans to head to a former Tower Records location on Sunset Blvd at 8:30 PM local time - a mere 45 minutes after the post was made. Despite the very short notice, s small crowd of fans did indeed make it to the event: This is the first explicit confirmation Shinoda has given about a new full-length solo project, which will presumably be a follow-up of sorts to the solo EP, "Post Traumatic", which he released this past January. One account says that a new song was indeed played to the attending fans. Whether first-hand accounts will be able to provide any more information on Shinoda's new music remains to be seen. Very excited by this news, Mike is a creative genius and I have no doubt he will deliver on this next project. Can't wait! The hype begins!
Best news in months. Wish I could firmly take his hand, look him in the eyes, and thank him for everything he has done and is doing. Even when I'm sure this is just what he needs to do for himself. Like every true artist.
So do y'all think the new stuff is gonna be also just about Chester/grieving or it will be about other different themes too?
If he's already shooting a video, then i can't imagine why we won't hear it anytime soon. Maybe an album release before the Summer Sonic show?
I predict that it's going to start from grief and travel to more optimistic places The song isn't fully mixed yet, from my understanding, and there's always room in Shinoda's process for big changes late in the game
I wonder how much of the album is done, it seems very early to have a full record. Anyway, awesome news.
Sometimes a creative outlet is the best way to cope with a traumatic incident. There is no such thing as a timeline for that.
To me this is really no different than another Fort Minor record. (Probably more singing this time around) I’m happy as hell and can’t wait for this album. Especially since Mike was always my biggest influence within LP and in general.
This guy can never seem to take a break lol I cannot wait for whatever he's creating, I know it'll be as rad as the tracks on Post Traumatic. What great news to wake up to!
I'm heartbroken at the circumstances that lead to him going solo at this point, but I'm happy at the same time that he's giving himself this creative outlet. He's a fantastic musician and a good vocalist (rap and singing), and deserves his time to shine.
