I think "About You" is a good song. The lyrics are pretty depressing and Mike raps with a lot of emotion. Also blackbears singing is beautiful.
The beat is nice as well. The only thing I don't like, is that the chorus is so distorted. That kinda bugs me and is the reason, why it's my least favourite PT track so far.

But I'm glad Mike even shares these very personal songs with us. It's great that he's experimenting and I hope it helps him heal and find a way to rebuild his career.
Can't wait to hear the rest of the album! It's an amazing journey and I'm curious to see where it goes.

The production feels very derivative of the pop/rap tunes out these days. The pitched down vocals, the drum rhythm, the trap-inspired hi-hats, synths etc. I feel like I've heard this kind of song a million times before.

Mike said the verses were not created specifically for this song, it's a mix of everything he wrote and pieces of lyrics that were left out from other songs.

So it's a patched up music.

Given that, it's impressive that the lyrics feel so coherent

Yeah the song has pretty much standard trap production which is used everywhere nowadays (I fucking love those bass bends tbh ), but that doesn't mean it's generic or bad imo. no one said you can't take common practiced things to make something great on your own.

    Ditto.
I think it's original enough and has all the Mike-elements whose make his tracks standout, not for better or worse (although for my taste is definitely better), but just in a different way. Nothing wrong in being inspired by something else and morph it into your own, amazing way.

There is a lot of rap out there where rappers are not RnB singers, you just got to keep looking :)

To start I would suggest an album from this year called "Care For Me" by Saba :)

I'm gonna steal someone else's words, but the difference is that this definitely has a Mike Shinoda flavor to it. That's what really sets it apart from a lot of other basic trap that is flooding the mainstream. Similar to how OML was certainly pop, but with that LP flavor to it.

Really not digging the pitched down vocals. Feel like the song could be much better with a clean chorus. Easily my least favourite of the six released so far.

The robotic vocals are the worst part of this song. The rap is not as catchy as in Over Again, but we can still tell it's a Mike Shinoda song, even with it being the weakest single off of Post Traumatic. Still thinking it will be one of the best albums of the year, since the other great ones have had one or two songs that I didn't enjoy that much.

This is the type of song that can get really popular with hip hop fans. But you can tell it's a Mike Shinoda song easily.
    My ranking for the songs released so far are;
    1. Place to Start
    2. Over Again
    3. Nothing Makes Sense Anymore
    4. Watching As I Fall
    5. About You
    6. Crossing A Line

PS - I don't dislike any so far at all.

Yeah, that post would've been unironically popular in 2003.

I'd probably rank it more like:
    1. Crossing A Line
    2. Place to Start
    3. Watching As I Fall
    4. Over Again
    5. Nothing Makes Sense Anymore
    6. About You

    IMO

This is pretty much what they did with Hybrid Theory. Nothing wrong with that.

Kinda surprised about the lukewarm reaction to this song in here.

This is one of the best songs released from the project so far if you ask me. I think Mike's flow really works, the low pitched vocals really shine in the final distorted chorus and the blackbear bridge give the song a mellow edge. Not to mention the music video is fantastic and easily the best produced of the ones so far.

Damn, people don't like the chorus and ending?
The last part of the song is what makes it great for me, why it stands out. Love the feature from blackbear and how it flows to the remixed chorus. That shit is so groovy, really makes me wanna dance. At first the verses where my least favorite part of the song, but I'm really diggin that too at the moment. Great track and hope Mike has some more suprises in store for us with this album!

Definitely. The instrumental switches up, or adds new elements constantly, the feature is dope, and the outro is surprising. I can understand some issues with Mike's lyrics as some feel a bit recycled, but I think there's enough lines (the AC/DC reference, have your tour rerouted, the solitary meaning bar) that are dope enough. Plus, it all flows very well together. Once Mike got into that "drama comma" shit, I was nodding.

I feel like this is the only song from the album so far that feels abrasive from everything else in tone. Like this wouldn't be played on an Alternative station unlike WAIF or Over Again. This is just straight up modern hip hop (that if marketed right) I can see jus being played on hip hop radio and fitting in pretty well with the current scene.
