This definitely has more Emily/Dead Sara vibes, and I think that's a fantastic thing. TEM is definitely on another level, but solid track, and glad to see they're going to let some of Emily's influence/pre-LP tone come through on the album. This will probably top HITC after a few more listens.
From all the stuff I've read (here and on other places), I've seen this song being compared to, at least, In Pieces Pretend To Be I'll Be Gone Powerless Final Masquerade Nobody Can Save Me Talking to Myself Friendly Fire And that is only for Linkin Park comparisons. Outside of that, seen stuff like Demi Lovato or modern-day Miley Cyrus. Some hearing classic pop LP in it, some not at all. For real, it's awesome. Beyond a vague idea, there is no way to get a clear idea how it'd sound
I really like that it feels tightly blended and distorted/gently raw at the same time. I’m a sucker for that kind of contrast in a song. Also, a very nice performance from Emily. I bet this will really shine live, and increasingly so.
I’ll just leave it at this: not a fan. 2/3. Hope it’s the only skip on the album because the album is only 11 songs after all.
I had to admit I was a little bit confused at first as the video ended I was like "she's alive, but she's not?" I immediately re-watched it with a friend who loves K-drama and she totally saw that coming haha (not that you needed to be a fan to get it, but I just had my friend close at hand). I'm so oblivious to these things, I don't even watch TV/streaming series so I'm slower on picking up on stuff. But as I rewatched it knowing a little bit more I appreciated a lot more how the little story progressed, and could catch all the signals that I missed for whatever reason .. I really liked her more softer vocals, her singing along with the visuals made it feel more emotional, it even makes me feel sad for a moment, but in a good way, it's like the song is being successful (on me) at delivering what it wanted to convey. Now I'm defo going to think of the video every time I listen to this song. I feel there are more surprises coming up on FZ and I'm so eager to listen.
Initial reaction, I was underwhelmed somewhat. My 9 year old son said, in typical 9 year old fashion, "that is trash". It was not what I expected, and if any other band had their name on it, I may never have listened again. But, this is LP and I know most of their songs do grow on me, so I gave it a couple more listens and I'm starting to feel the vibes. It ranks 3rd so far though, with TEM way in front. The video was nice too with the plot twist.
CASUALTY! CASUALTY! I'M MY OWN CASUALTYYYYYY!!! RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! For the record, I think Victimized slays hard. But I wouldn't want another one.
Very OML. I like it, but om first listen I don't think it has the same 'wow factor' as TEM or HITC. But that's possibly my subconscious not having yet adjusted to a Linkin Park song with neither Mike nor Chester singing lead (this is of course the first such song, excluding instrumentals). I think this is a song that I'll enjoy a lot in the context of the album, rather than one with a specific draw to make me want to listen to on its own. But I'd imagine my opinions will change quite a lot the more I listen to the song, as they often do!
Sonically it feels like something a bit new for them (which is exciting), but it’s a bit undercooked and doesn’t actually do anything interesting with this new sonic palette. it could grow on me, though. It has really great music video, though! I quite enjoyed thar.
I don't think I'll be listening to this much on it's own but it'll kill it as part of a whole-album playlist. My major problem is that it's too short so the only part that really has a distinction from the rest of the song is the opening verse. It needs more space to breathe and develop. There's so many interesting ideas here that they could have made like an extended bridge out of or something.
The demo to the outro of Until It Breaks, a song that was created from 3 demoes. It is actually the most folk song Linkin Park have released. Almost tied with Devil's Drop, if that counts.
My dream LP. Do exactly what they do, but make the songs 5 mins and expand on the cool instrumental parts etc
It's a cool song, I enjoyed it. The chorus is great as usual, even though I feel it's a bit repetitive, and the bridge could have something more, too. I agree with a few comments that state that LP should expand on their sound, tbh the best part of LP for me over the years are their instruments and they could easily add 1-2 minutes to their songs and make them so much better. Never understood why they don't do it on records, they do it a lot of times live with intros/outros. One thing I really like is that we got 3 songs that are all completely different, can't wait to hear what the rest sounds like. The hype for Casualty is over the roof and I don't like that. I would very much rather be blown away when I first heard it without knowing anything, than have such a big expectation now and it turns out to be "good", or even "great", but will be very hard to meet the expectations. The same happened for Victimized. "It's Meshuggah heavy!!", lol chill bro. Anyway only 20 days now, let's go!
I agree. However, it seems like (at least) Mike has been mostly drawn to writing shorter, conventionally structured, songs for the last decade. Reason is unclear, but it could be as simple as he enjoys writing those more. I suppose it allows him to spend more time exploring different soundscapes and melodies, when each track duration is shorter. If you think about how Mike was writing a new song every day during the "corona jams", it could be that spending a lot of time on a longer track, and figuring out all the details, is more boring and/or stressful to him - especially when he is known for being a perfectionist. Not to say he doesn't do it from time to time, but maybe it could explain why it occurs less often. Another thing, that probably doesn't help, is the "short attention span / tik-tok" phenomenon that has been, to some extent, pushing the music market in a certain direction. I love that aspect. And I'd even say the number is 4, because we know Casualty is going to be something totally different too. So far, the albums contains An alternative rock anthem A rap rock jam A pop rock ballad A "freaking heavy" one Would love if each track on the record was unique in its own way. Even on a disjointed record like LT, some songs were pretty similar in essence (IMR, BID, IBG). I agree. Spoiler: More Casualty Stuff We also know the track length, and there is only so much you can do in 2:20. Duration is not an indication of quality, but short tracks are not for everyone. Maybe it is a bit dangerous to overhype the shortest track on the record ^^' I could totally love it, but I would prefer if they would spread the hype over all the tracks.
Not really feeling this one too much so far, but maybe it'll grow on me I really like the music video!
I agree, but at the same time, I gave myself 'measured' expectations for this record, and so far with the three tracks I have been pleasantly surprised. There's some things I would have changed (i.e. HITC having more emotive raps instead of the verses legit seeming like they were written for a video game, and Over Each Other having more variation) but none of the songs have been objectively bad so far. They're all great additions to the LP discography and continue to showcase why Linkin Park truly knows what is best for their band, and made a great choice in picking Emily.
