"Hey Joe, can you go into more detail about Mike's verses on Casualty?"

"Joe, what does the intro guitar on Good Things Go sound like?"

Nope, just some cunt talking about two women needing condoms for sex or some shit.

    :wat:

Moving swiftly on... I wanna ask about the guitar work on the record. In the three songs we've heard so far the guitars have all sounded very Mike to me. We know that Brad re-joined the guys quite late on in the recording of the album, but is there anything on any of the songs that sounds like it was recorded by Brad?

I'm gonna post some random questions cause I feel like we have more juice to squeeze from the lucky folks who have already heard the album.

    1. Any more thoughts generally on the drumming? Colin seems like a bit more of an intense drummer than Rob, I'm curious how that translates onto a Linkin Park album.

    2. Any memorable riffs or guitar parts from Thee modern guitar god?

    3. Let's say I smoke a bit of the reefer and I'm just vibing out, which of these songs is gonna be the go-to song for a stoner sesh? Which song has the strongest Vibes to turn off your mind relax and float downstream to?

Having heard the album, I can't post a review early like previous years (it's embargoed) but I'm probably safe to at least answer these.

    1. Colin does a really good job of being "in the pocket" and replicating the Rob Bourdon feel on some tracks, but he also does a lot more flourishes and tiny fills than Rob ever did. I feel Rob was always very 'technical' so to speak, and Colin (while still very tight on the drums), seems to enjoy flourishes more.

    2. Hard to say, because it's uncertain which parts Brad did or Mike did since Brad came in late. I will say there are some fun 'classic LP' riffs.

    3. Definitely Overflow. One of their most experimental tracks in years.

Guitar-wise, I am expecting most of the parts to have been written by Mike. What makes me inclined to think so is that Brad came rather late in the process. I could imagine him with more of a "production/guidance" role this time around.

One thing I am curious about is if the albums maintains a consistent vibe and atmosphere, despite the variations between styles. A counter-example to that would be Living Things, as it definitely felt like 2 distinct EP's merged into one entity (Electro Rock VS "Folk Electro").

Now I'm sufficiently hyped for both Casualty and Overflow.

5 days until I can hear. Just 5 days!

It's weird to say, because the genres bounce around like MTM did, but it feels more cohesive than MTM if that makes sense. MTM is a great album but is all over the place genre wise. This, despite having some unique sounds for them, doesn't feel so scattered.

I haven't heard the album yet, but I feel safe to say that this might be their most experimental album wholesale since, oh, 2017. At least, since May 20th, 2017.

No album they've put out since then has been quite as experimental IMO.

This album doesn't even scratch the experimentalism of 'Papercuts'

On a serious note. As @Derek mentioned, one of the more noticeable differences on the album is that Colin definitely feels a lot less "disciplined" (in a good way) than Rob did, and it creates a completely different dynamic

One of my favourite things about this album is how on some songs, the chorus is different throughout the song after each verse. Like it's sang differently, or is quieter the first time round with more instruments the second time round. Really like how it makes the songs build up.

I love this, it is one of the simple tricks that instantly made TEM standout. The dynamic shift between Mike first chorus and Emily's second levels up the song from good to freaking awesome.

That is not something they could do on every song I think - it would become a bit predictable - and more straightforward songs in between, like HITC, can help maintain balance and an element of surprise. But I love the idea that they switched gears on more songs than just TEM (and I assume, OEO).

Time can't pass fast enough to make 15th be here.
I think I never felt this hype about any record out there.
    About this:
I love how Mike structures the songs.

I was about to respond in the affirmative, and then I read this closer.

Yes this is their most experimental album since 2017.
