I just posted about this in the leak thread but I really like the chorus melody and that's what keeps this song from being a dud for me. Emily's delivery and the actual melody itself sound good to my ears. To me, it makes it sound less intense than you'd expect from a Meteora-esque chorus, if that makes any sense to anyone else.
Korn-esque vibes on the verse, the weird guitar notes in the background. Limp Bizkit feelings on the "whispering" part on the bridge. It's Nu Metal in a nutshell
-The best song on the album by far imo -Potential song of the year for me -Might be a top 20 Linkin Park song
@minusxerø made a good joke that I agree with: Figure. 02 Faced I think a lot of people would say they see why this song would be made/placed on the album. It's not for me.
Maybe my 2nd or 3rd most anticipated song at this point I know that sound/aesthetic gets a hard pass from a couple of people. But if it harness the energy and spirit of Xero/HT EP/ HT - rather than the polished sound of Meteora - then I'm probably going to love it.
you think it gives vibes similar to figure.09? Because I get heavy Hybrid Theory EP vibes and those vibes with modern production are incredible.
Controversial, but it’s my least favourite new track. Production and sound is good, but the chorus feels a bit immature compared to the rest of the album.
This track has grown on me a lot this week. It does feel like something this band has done plenty of times before, but it's also been actual decades since they've done it and no one else does it like them. Also if LP fans can still form pits, this one will get it going.
I absolutely adore how this album has something from every era, literally from Xero to HT to LP old and new. Two-Faced is my 3rd favorite track on the entire album after Stained and Cut the Bridge, although that music video is heavily making me want to move it up to #2 - they're having so much fun and Emily is absolutely a leading woman.
first impression? I’m in love with this song. After 3 hours on repeat my takes: The beginning riff reminds me of the beginning of Hit the Floor - Meteora I agree with it progressing like Figure.09 Chorus kind of reminds me of the chorus from Remedy - Seether the way the guitar ebbs and flows The "I can't hear myself think" part reminds me of the part of Killing in The Name - Rage Against the Machine that goes "and now you do what they told ya", especially the way it builds. The lyrics part of "I can't hear myself think STOP YELLIING AT ME!" feels like an answer to both Faint ("You're gonna listen to be like it or not") and One Step Closer (Shut up when I'm talking to you) This song has me feeling all kinds of feelings. I can't even find all of the words for it yet. Maybe I need a few more hours on repeat........
I love the sound of it, but the lyrics in the chorus felt a bit too young for the band. It’s also sandwiched between Overflow and Stained which are utter belters and have a newer sound. With that said… the video is so good haha. It’s helped me warm to the track a lot this morning. I can’t begin to explain how great it is to see them all looking so f**king happy!!!
I’ll go the route of defending it. The context of its circumstances and all the things that had to go right for it to happen in the first place is what makes it interesting and fun to me. Because, I think knowing the band like we do, it wouldn’t have happened if it ONLY felt like an obligation and the new band mates were ONLY to serve to force an idea to live again. This was the one and maybe only time to share the tired original formula with new friends in an official full length album and have it be interesting for everyone involved. Two-Faced needed to be on the album. I may be wrong, but I believe it’s a bonding song for the band, and that pushes it well beyond its air of shameless 00’s teen-angst nostalgia in my mind.
Very well said. I really like that you put emphasis on the friendship and bonding aspect of it. One way to know the new line-up sits just right is when they can channel the original essence of the band, and have fun with it.
