What bands DON'T use "formulas"? Look at it this way:

Lots of classic rock bands used a formula like, intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-guitar solo-chorus-end.

The original punk bands usually got away without even using a bridge: intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-(maybe a small solo or break)-verse-chorus-end.

Most, if not all bands, have used a basic formula in their songs. LP tends to follow the classic rock formula, the first one I put, without the guitar solo. Most stuff has a formula to it except for like, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Coheed and Cambria, Rush, Tool, Dragonforce...gee what do these bands all have in common? Oh, they do epic songs that are like 7 or 8 minutes long, sometimes even longer. And guess what? Every single one of those bands also has short, concise, 3 and a half minute songs that DO follow a "formula."

So unless you expect LP to become a prog rock/experimental band, start throwing guitar and drum solos in every song, or start doubling the length of their songs, don't expect the formula to go away. Every band that ever was anything big has used a formula to their songs at some point, and believe it or not, some damn good songs have been written that way.

Yes. I like listening to the difference between the crappy tape version we have and the live version.

Haha, the Don't Stay intro sounds so.... HAPPY.

That whole show is sick...qwerty is amazing, and reading my eyes...wow...just wow. I hope they play that in live shows in the states, I'd love to hear that gem. I always enjoy it when bands make sure to go back and play their older material.

I don't know if it's possible, but I think after this performance, maybe Reading My Eyes is deserving of a rerelease?

I know that means less new material, but I could totally see RME getting airplay.

I actually wish RME would get put onto the next LPU cd...whenever that is.

At least some bands try to mix it up a little bit. You have to say, after this long Linkin Park's formula gets boring. I can understand how some bands have certain formulas which work for them and what not but now this is just boring me.

I'd say that the fact that the same formula was used for Meteora is what made me get bored of it so quickly. The songs were good but it was like I'd heard them all before. I'd rather have LP trying out different formulas for songs and have them be bad than just plain boring, at least that would show that they're trying to broaden out and try new things other than regurgitating the same song over and over again.

Who's to say the band hasn't recorded a new version of "Reading My Eyes" for their new album? I think that's a possibility.

You're absolutely right, Dedicated. It's just too boring. I can't say the new song is bad, but I certainly expected at least a different song structure. They don't have to make huge changes, for example, they can have a song with sung verse-sung chorus-rap verse-sung chorus-another sung verse-rap outro or they can make a song without a real chorus, or with a chorus that is slightly changed each time. There are possibilities to keep the formula and to make songs different at the same time.

I think that they will use only new material for album. But it will probably be on the LPU cd.

It better be because after that live performance, I fell in love with the song all over again.

EDIT: I wonder if, during their tours, they will play other old songs? Might be interesting, ya know. Some exclusiveness for everyone.

One day play Reading My Eyes, another day play Stick N' Move, another day Fuse...

    Part of Me anyone?
