I read an article on mtv.com that Heath Ledger has signed on to play the Joker in the next Batman film due out Summer 2008. I think Heath Ledger is a good actor but I dont know as a villain much less the Joker.

This has been a rumor for a while now, and I think it's the truth. The second Batman film is also titled "The Dark Knight", with no reference to Batman at all in the title. I can't wait to see it, or at least a trailer.

Well it was reported on IMDB, so I'm pretty sure this is official stuff here. If it's true, I'd like to see how Ledger does.

Really, as long as Batman isn't played by Val Kilmer, I'm all for it. It's a hard feat, but I can see Heath Ledger as The Joker. I read an article about it a while back on msn movies, it's confirmed.

I don't know about this actually. Really Heath Ledger as The Joker ?

He might spoil one of the best Batman villains there is by playing it. I don't think he can pull it off.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Actor Ryan Phillippe will play the villain Two-Face in the upcoming Hollywood production of the "Batman Begins" sequel, "The Dark Knight."

The 31-year-old Phillippe will be the second actor to play the disfigured comic villain in a film, Teen Hollywood reported. Tommy Lee Jones did it in 1995's "Batman Forever."

"Brokeback Mountain" star Heath Ledger will follow in the film footsteps of Jack Nicholson, playing the infamous Batman villain, the Joker, in "The Dark Knight."

Phillippe reportedly beat out Liev Schreiber and Josh Lucas for the role of Two-Face.

"Batman Begins" co-stars Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have already agreed to join "The Dark Knight," Teen Hollywood said, and Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman is said to be in talks to play the Penguin

I am fucking siked about that. Ryan, the only famous actor from my state. Gotta represent.

They didn't mention Christian Bale, I really hope he resumes the role.

Because they are huge villains in the Batman series? This isn't supposed to be a whole new Batman.

Because the Begins movies aren't supposed to be tied into the old ones. It's an all new series.

Is it just me, or is this Ryan guy a little too young looking to be a lawyer, not to mention Two-Face?

I'm not doubting the decision, I'm just wondering how they're gonna pull it off (because by God, I know they will).

Harvey Dent is supposed to be a young, brash, arrogant DA.

Yeah but I guess I've gotten used to how old the Animated Series Dent looked.

And he don't look young at all.

It will be interesting to see how Ledger plays the joker. Personally, I was hoping for Johnny Depp. I think that he plays eccentic parts very well.

Batman Begins was casted very well, so I guess that they know what they're doing.

Tommy Lee Jones did an awesome job as Two-Face in the crappy movies. I doubt I'll enjoy Phillipe's Two-Face. Ledger was also a wierd choice. But whatever, I won't judge it until I see it. Hoffman as Penguin, that might be interesting.

Ledger will do fine. I can already see his performance being much more realistic and akin to what Nolan is looking for. Still, nothing beats Jack.

Also, if any of you have read The Long Halloween or Dark Victory novels, you'll know that they get a lot of their inspiration from them, namely for Harvey Dent, who is quite young in those texts.

Lastly, I really think Bob Hoskins should play Penguin. Plus, Hoffman already rejected it, so they have few choices.
