So my LCD screen on the MacBook is cracked and I can't see anything anymore. I've read through the warranty and it doesn't cover 'accidents' which I'm sure is what Apple will see it as. I was wondering if anyone has had to replace a laptop monitor and how much it costs.
I don't have a job, so I can't pay for a replacement yet. I'm going to try going to the Apple store to see what they can do in terms of replacing it.
So. I bought a cable to connect my MacBook to a monitor. Crisis averted, but it's no longer a laptop.
But of course, that's coming from Apple themselves. I've checked around and there are plenty of sites that will do the same for about 300$ less.
The only problem with that is, you lose your warranty if whoever does the repair isn't Apple authorized.
Well, I'd say that she's right. If you buy a laptop then you want the whole thing to be covered no matter what happens. If it's an accident then the warranty should surely cover it?
Warranties cover defects from the manufacturer. The screen breaking was accidental damage which Apple, and pretty much everyone else, won't cover. That would be like wrecking a car and wanting it repaired for free because the car is under warranty.
You don't need an Apple store near by you. My MacBook Pro came with a faulty hard-drive which I just recently had to take it in for. I live i Newfoundland, the closest Apple store is a three hour flight away. I called up Apple Care and they told me where the nearest authorized Apple reseller/repair area is. Turns out it was on the university campus.
