Try listening to "It Took The Night To Believe" in a pitch black room with no windows. Actually, the whole album probably.

"My Wall" featuring Julian Cope is an awesome track, by the way. Get it.

The Immortal cover on Black One is damn creepy, too.

I heard the new Meshuggah album is being delayed until early '08.
Oh well... they were never exactly prolific with their album releases anyway, so I guess a few extra months doesn't mean much in the grand-scheme of things.

I just heard the new As I Lay Dying album. Is it just me... or has the Bay Area become the new Gothenburg, when it comes to metalcore?

Gothenburg > Bay Area for the most part

I was always more of a thrash fan than a melodic death metal fan, but the only real notable Bay Area band to come out in the last 15 years is Machine Head.
Back to AILD. It seems like their following in Chimaira and Devildrivers shoes
and going for the faster more thrash-based sound, as opposed to ripping off
At the Gates ad nauseum. I kind of like it actually, and this is coming from someone who has never been too impressed with AILD.

Really? 'Cause I've seen it for $10 a few times, but I still couldn't justify spending that on Metalcore. Maybe I will get it.

I wouldn't say it's worth buying (even at $10), but it's definitely better than anything they've done in the past. It still has a lot of lame sing-a-long
choruses that aren't very good. I'm all for melody, but it just seems out of place in some songs. A step in the right direction, though.

I just listed to You Fail Me for the first time, and because it's the only Converge album I haven't heard, I though that they wouldn't be able to blow me away again. But fuck, everything they do is a masterpiece. You Fail Me is my probably my new favorite Converge, as of now.

You Fail Me is most definitely awesome. You Fail Me and Eagles Become Vultures have to be two of the most evil-sounding Converge songs. Hell, that whole album is just dark and evil!

I'm really starting to dig the new Down album. I was hoping it would sound more like NOLA than Down II, but I'm starting to warm up to it.

I've never actually listened to Down that much before. I've heard good things about their new album though.

There good if you like listening to sludgy-stoner rock. Their heavy in a Black Sabbath sort of way, and Phil Anselmo actually sings instead of grunting and screaming (not that there is anything wrong with that mind you).

 I doubt he could even do that anymore. I think Panteras cover of Planet Caravan shows his vocal chops pretty well. Listen to Stone the Crow or
Ghosts Along the Mississippi to get a good idea of what Down is like.
