Yeah, thanks guys. The Prophet's Song isn't bad lyrically either. Thanks . EDIT: I still do feel a lot of their songs have terrible lyrics though lol.
Surely there are plenty of worse lyricists than LP out there. From the MTM sessions I thought that TLTGYA and the songs fronted by Mike actually had pretty good lyrics and the rest aren't usually terrible by any means.
That's fine with me, everyone has their own opinion. If my younger sister was a member of this site, though, she'd be all over your case. In her opinion, Queen is the air, sky, clouds, grass, whatever. Again, I must reiterate: Pink Floyd
Oh how could I forget pink floyd? Stupid me. Lupe Fiasco definately has some awesome lyrics, and when mike shinoda does lyrics apart from LP they're usually amazing.
Far is a great band that had good lyrics. They were criminally underrated, commercially, which is one reason many people never discovered them.
Some of their lyrics were really good but I always thought the guitar was the highlight of their music.
Honestly, I don't listen to much, but I can list a few (in no specific order) : Linkin Park (some of their stuff is really good) Magna Fi Breaking Benjamin Green Day
Emotionally, nobody else comes even close to the lyrics Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) writes. but I also particular enjoy, just off the top of my head: Incubus Henry Rollins Meshuggah Rage Against the Machine And for those saying TMV, aren't they just jibberish? And for those saying HIM, aren't they just really emo?
I don't even like either of those bands, but I can tell you have a very close-minded view of music. Stick to what you know, and don't hate on other people's musical tastes. Thanks.
So what you're saying is that you don't disagree that TMV's lyrics are jibberish and HIM is emo. It's not hating; it's the truth. I really enjoy TMV's jibberish and think it really works within the context of the music , and . . . I suppose it is at least almost conceivable that someone might possibly, hypothetically be inspired by the lyrics a band whose biggest hit was "Join Me in Death." And aren't you the big man, telling me what I can and can't say on the internet.
I could flip that around and call you the big man for being condescending towards one of the moderators. Not disagreeing would be agreeing, so that's a wrong statement to make about what I said. The Mars Volta's lyrics are very metaphorical and are not gibberish. It doesn't take an English major to realize this. You now come off as someone who is familiar with the band so it's kind of puzzling to call their lyrics gibberish when in fact they do have meaning. It's a disservice to their craft. Secondly, I have an issue with calling anything emo (a stupid, overgeneralized term), and the sense in which you were using it came off as derogatory. In both cases, you took the opinion of someone else and put a negative spin on what they were saying. If you have nothing constructive to say, leave it be.
Yeah, for one, the song isn't about suicide really. It's the hypothetical question of "would you spend the rest of forever with me?" not "would you kill yourself if I died?" Also, Join Me In Death wasn't their bigest single. Don't ask what was, but that wasn't it. Again, emo is emotive hardcore... an offshoot of punk. It can mean you've got really angry songs, really happy songs, really sad ones, anything really. If it's emotional in some form, it's usable. There are more emotions other than depression (which by the way, most of the time the "depression" in emo music isn't really depression, if you listen). EDIT: Just because TMV uses words that are too big for you to understand doesn't mean they're gibberish.
