Top 100 Greatest Singers of all time (to avoid longness I post only 10 click the link to see all) 500 Greatest songs 100 Greatest Guitar Songs The top Greatest Guitarists (first one is Jimi) (no right out list available) 500 Greatest Albums ever
I actually don't like most of the artists/songs here, but I can certainly respect them, at least. The only thing I do have a problem with is ranking Jimi as the greatest guitarist of all time.
But especially that song. Like Come As You Are is infinitely better. Not that I'm saying it's great. But yeah. And that guitarists list... John Petrucci? Steve Vai? Slash? Joe Satriani? Pretty ridiculous list with all of them missing.
Even if they've decided to focus on better 'songwriter' guitarists rather than out and out technical virtuosos like you've listed, I can think of better than Jimi.
Kurt Cobain is a great songwriter, but I imagine even he would've admitted that he's wasn't a good guitar player. Those lists are just... weird.
The one thing I will say about Rolling Stone is that when it comes to lists like this they seem to be very much weighted in favour of (to borrow a term from Pete Wentz) the "gilded" bands. I mean, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and such. While it could be said that this is just deserved, I tend to think that there's a lot of new(er) music they neglect. And no, Nirvana doesn't count. I think this is especially true of their Guitarists list (I really seem to have a problem with that list ).
I definitely agree. All of those bands are great, imo, but they're pretty much the easy picks. Saying Sgt. Pepper's is "the greatest album ever made" is about as predictable as a music journalist can get.
I think their lists are at least partially based upon influentialness, which is why people like him and Johnny Ramone were included
@ The Beatles having 4 of the top 10 albums. Really? They were great but come on. EDIT: I didnt see Thriller at 20.
I disagree on Maynard, only his fans think he's all that amazing lol. But yeah, Cornell should be there... EDIT: I know most of you won't like this, and I think I'm past the point of being a fanboy, but Chester. Seriously, what other singer in the past 10 years has been as instantly recognisable as him? It's not every day someone from this era get's to collaborate with Paul McCartney, or be asked to sing with Camp Freddy repeatedly.
