I might just be slow to this as I don't usually watch live videos, but Chester's voice now is very very different than how it used to be in HT days. Upon watching the newly released (and uploaded) DVD,

I found the old songs to sound a lot different due to this change. I'm not keen on how to describe it, but the raspiness, xcoreness is all gone now, it's replaced with a deeper smoother voice. This makes the old songs sound like Chester's singing on a different key.

Again, I might just be slow in noticing this but it was a drastic change as I heard it.

It's probably because of age. Although I did like his older live voice.

Mike's voice has changed too. It's become deeper. All because of age, I guess, and you can't change it.

I've noticed this too! And yeah, I also noticed how Mikes voice got deeper. I liked Chester's "older" voice when they performed live a lot because he brought more energy to the stage. He still does now, but you can see a huge difference in stage presence. I don't mind though, LP is still the greatest band ever!

he can still have that raspiness, go watch some videos of Chaz performing with Camp Freddy, he uses that style of singing

i believe that it takes more energy from him to sing in that way, but he still have it

I attribute the "huge difference in stage presence" to Chester's excessive use of the mic stand.

^I've always wondered why he's so attached to that darned mic stand anyway. He shows a lot more energy when he's without it. I mean, for songs like SoTD and LoatR, it's pretty much okay because you can't actually jump around like a maniac while singing those :p

I've been watching Linkin Park live on Youtube these past couple days, and I've noticed in a lot of live shows now, Chester likes to hold the mic stand, and be really close to it, and jump around and stuff with it. But back in the old days he never did that. lol, I wonder what the deal is now. o_O

Isn't his back damaged, that being the reason why he can't jump around so often? o_O

That's what someone here on the forums said, anyway.

Well I think he definetly has the raspy-ness, it just doesn't show as much anymore. But you can tell because in RTR:MK it comes on and off in some songs.

Well now that you mention it, chester did sound pretty tired on no more sorrow on their new live cd, and they did a performance of shadow of the day, which sounded pretty horrible vocally. I guess the shadow of the day was when chester had the throat cancer.

    (its gone now, btw)

agreed his voice has definitely changed a bit, but thats only to accompany their new style. I think he's such a unique singer because he sings so well and has a great falsetto, but he also can scream like crazy. He has one of the best voices in rock today hands down

His voice changed because he's getting older and he screams so much.

Back in the day, I remember Chester sounding more like Scott Stapp, esp. on OSC "Over and over again..." and By Myself "Thoughts of failure sinking in."
He's really developed as a singer as the band has gotten older.

Yeah Chester's voice has changed, to accompany their new style with Minutes to Midnight. I do not mind it, I do not mind his old voice either. It all works for me. :)
