Which is why I hate anything Metallica has put out since the Black Album. If LP hasn't ventured into new grounds in 10 years, I'll be disappointed. Let me clarify: I still enjoy Hybrid Theory as it was back when it was released. But if LP wrote the same album 10 years later, it'd be old and cliché.

Turning their backs on themselves would mean staying with what the fans want rather than what they want. They have complete creative control over their product. They wouldn't be putting out this album if they didn't feel it to be the best representation of the band RIGHT NOW.

I will be quite honest and say I don't know how to word what I have in my head at the moment. Give me some time to get coffee in my system.

    See my responses above.

    It's spelled 'skeptical.'

But does that warrant them eradicating the rap/rock style completely?

    Nu-metal is dead.

Anymore discussion on said topic is invalid.

This isn't my debate, but I thought I would just say that is up to Linkin Park, nothing should warrant their decision other than their own choices in wanting to create the music they want to create.

What, so you'd rather see Metallica playing electronic music, just cuz they couldn't produce anything new within their genre?

So you'd agree that the majority of fans have been let down?

    Sure thing

I'm originally from the UK, where it's spelt 'sceptical'. :)

For me The Catalyst sounds like a natural progression from Hybrid Theory. M2M was too stripped down and featured less of 2 of the strongest members; Mike and Joe. Meteora can be quite painful to listen to at times. Songs like Don't Stay and From The Inside really are heavy and I do not really enjoy listening to them now. Meteora gave us both Breaking the Habit and Numb, as well as Faint, which would easily get into Hybrid Theory. All in all M2M was their weakest album and I expect ATS to get some energy back into the music and give the fans something to shout about (literally!).

I REALLY hope this isn't a back handed comment calling TC techno.

Because if it is then your arguments have truly become comical and nothing more.

there is a difference between techno and having electronic elements

    Techno
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl4opbNt8_E

Electronic elements (Innerpartysystem - Don't Stop)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyhSShullXc
(and most on topic with the subject The Catalyst)

please do research on what techno is before you start accusing The Catalyst of being anything close to techno. Just because it has electronic elements, doesnt make it techno.

TC isn't techno. And techno is quite alive. Techno encompasses EDM, or Electronic Dance Music. It's the general term. It is, however not electronica. Techno is trance, house, ambient, breakbeats, acid, acid jazz, etc. Then you have IDM, or Intelligent Dance Music. This gets into glitch, drum and bass. And trust me, trance is alive. House is alive. This is not techno.

I agree, though I love M2M, The Catalyst sounds much more like a natural progression from HT for them than anything on M2M did IMO. It really almost feels like Hybrid Theory (band) as much as it feels like Linkin Park... If that makes any sense...

I cry at some of the comments in this thread. The arguments are just so silly.

The Catalyst being techno one of them.

Whoa whoa, it was joke. Serious. I just said it cuz it's kind of amusing how much some Linkin Park fans hate Catalyst being labelled as TECHNO.

And the fact that it's funny people think nu-metal died.. and that Linkin Park were nu-metal :)

Yeah, I just love the fact that all of the members of LP feature in a song! I really hope most of the songs have just as much energy and different instruments in them. The only criticisms I have are the overly long ending, which was a little repetitive and also the synth bit, which could have been a little more 'explosive'. I hate to say it but the MOH trailer had the right idea about how to introduce it.

I also love the fact that this will get more people into Linkin Park and it proves that they cannot be pigeon holed into one genre.

All this stupid bickering about categorizing/pigeon-holing a song that incorporates multiple genres is a complete waste of time. This reminds me of the "what is emo?" days.... Thank god those are over. I yearn for the days where people just enjoy songs for what they are as opposed to trying to fit it in a box so they can dismiss it.

And DO NOT get into an emo debate. The thread is veering close to being off-topic already.

Yea, we should get back on topic :)

I put TC on my ipod last night and listened to it in the car on the way to work today and mannn it sounds even better in my car's stereo system. Can totally rock out to while driving.

My drive to work everyday is about 45 minutes so once Sept 14 comes around, i'll be enjoying my morning drive while listening to ATS in its entirety :)
