Best Free Antivirus?

I just recently got a new computer and like all new computers, it needs an antivirus program. Now I hear really terrible things about programs like McAfee and Norton, so are there any other antivirus programs I can get that are actually free?

 

We use Webroot AniVirus. It seems to do the job, but it's not free

 

Just get anything that isn't Mcafee or Norton . They really bog down your computer at times and Norton in particular pops up everywhere.

This. I've had it for over a year on my new computer and it's still in mint condition today. I never get a virus.

And my friend/roommate graduated with a Computer Science degree and swears by avast.

 

Yup I also think avast is really good.

AVG is rather legitimate. I used a lot of different programs when I was on Windows; Norton, Trend Micro, McAfee, AVG, Avast, Avira...

For free, definitely go with AVG.
