Screams/yells/spoken word>rapping>singing. The problem with his opinion is that he has absolute shit taste in television. Oh, and he's 67, so he probably thinks music shouldn't be made with computers. Oh and, seeing as the dude mentioned her, am I the only one who thinks Adele is incredibly overrated? People are acting like they've never heard depressing music before :/
Every time someone says "am I the only one who..." they should just assume the answer is no. I don't care whether or not it's supposed to be rhetorical, it's just kind of an annoying and facetious way of framing one's opinion. Or am I the only one who thinks so?
Interesting that he mentioned Eddie Vedder, a man who's vocal style, regardless of how you feel about him personally, is partially responsible for influencing some of the most boring, derivative singers in rock.
Eddie Vedder pretty much influenced the entirety of post-grunge singers. Pretty sure that dude from Nickleback listened to way too much Pearl Jam.
I posted this thread cause I knew it'd cause some controversy. . Honestly I find it ironic that someone with probably the weakest voice out of the people he mentioned, feels it necessary to say that vocalists today are no longer "good" or "distinctive". Honestly, The Who are a great band, but Roger never was the best vocalist out there...although judging by his self-praise in his article, he seems to view himself as such.
Probably. Oh and, there needs to be a little more appreciation for The Who in this thread. Even if this dude's pretty washed up, they were a tight band.
Pretty much. Aaron Lewis, SCOTT STAPP, and countless other guys whose names escape me. All of them worship at the altar of FEEEELIIIIIIINNNNNG SHABADABAHADABAGETTYTAH FAMILIAR, OOOH YEAH.
They were a GREAT band. But Roger wasn't nearly a good enough vocalist (compared to the other vocalists of the time) to act as an authority on who has the best vocal chops lol.
Lol! I get what you mean... Here's my point of being a great singer in respect to the band that the singer is in. Matt from Avenged Sevenfold is the same way, in my opinion.
During a rehearsal for a performance at TK101, the local rock station here, SCOTT STAPP started singing some nonsensical shit. BOVOLI OVISSS comes to mind.
For rock/metal, how has noone mentioned Myles Kennedy? also, Rob Thomas, while he doesnt exactly change styles, his voice is unique and might as well be gold.
Even if there are a million Eddie Vedder knock offs who aren't good, it doesn't detract from the fact that the man is EASILY one of the most talented, genuine, powerful and heartfelt singers EVER in popular music. And no, PJ are not my favourite band nor do I even own half of their releases, so I'm no fanboy.
Your not alone my friend! I too find Adele to be highly overrated. Sure she has a great voice, and she can sing her lungs out, but shes nothing we haven't heard before. The public LOVE her, and she seems to be getting more and more popular (there's rumors that she may be singing the next James Bond theme in the new film) But i cry in despair every time I hear her song "someone like you" on the radio. The most OVERPLAYED song of 2011 for sure
Russell Allen from Symphony X would like to have a word with you.
